A little tid-bit about the cast in this lovely movie first,

Interesting with Maki as the centre, these three have appeared in other subtext projects other than this one. Asami was cast along Maki in the Locker movie series (Shibuya Kaidan) where she played as a college student that was tutoring junior High scholar Maki. Their relationship was kind of interesting…with goggles at max it was plain as day. As for Rina, she was in that nice drama that is one of my favourite JDramas – Seito Shokun, where she plays a new homeroom teacher to a very troubled class (sounds familiar?). The class was run in the shadows by non other than the quite girl Maki who later goes all commando on us and gives us some nice moments between her and Rina. Now, I am not saying you go out and watch this because they aren’t 100% yuri (but really, only 1 in 1000 is ) but if you place your goggles to over 9000, what are you still doing here?

So yeah, there is that history between these ladies and while Maki only appears at the start and in flashbacks, she did a very good job of setting the gripping atmosphere of this movie! I swear this movie really grates the nerves. If I were asked to explain what the Thriller genre is…This would be it! There i little violence but moods…The moods!!!! I can’t count how many times I swallowed nervously when watching this…seriously. There is that scene where Kako and Miho are alone and Miho finally lets lose the true meaning of her words when she had said she wished she was able to kill back then. It turns out she wanted to be the one to kill Kako’s family for what they did to her father (I will explain later don’t worry). The air I swear could be cut with a finger!

By the way, I don’t know if anyone still remembers, but I blogged about this movie on my first attempt at it on Live Spaces but that blog went burst. So here we are again.

Okay, let me get one thing clear first here, Kako and Miho have men in their lives, in fact Miho is already married but fear not, marriage is after all so over rated. And what better way to have a divorce than including some hammer action! That’s right, that bitch got it good, in the back of the head. Domestic Violate my Miho?! bitch please.

Any way, the movie begins with young Kako (Maki) on a school trip where she is having the time of her life. A life that soon take dark turn when their teacher comes over and requests Kako to pack her bags and prep to leave ASAP! Down in the lobby, their principle breaks the news to Kako….

‘Akiba-san, I want you to stay calm and listen to me very carefully’, the Principle says before he drops the bomb of the whole of Kako’s family having ben involved in a serious accident – A family that consisted of her father, mother and two very young brothers.

Well, Kako did stay calm….for the rest of her life!

I swear I could clearly feel the emotions from the screen and see how broken Kako gets never to be right again. The cinematography was that much more superb as it put the atmosphere to perfection and from then on, as Kako went to the hospital, the mood of the mood had ben set.

Jump a few years later when Kako is in University (of film). It seems she’s been keeping in touch with a detective who is close to her family murder case and the murderer’s daughter. She requests to meet the daughter of the man that gruesomely murdered her family that fateful night (It wasn’t an accident but a massacre – in the comfort of their own home too).

The fun begins when Kako finally meets Miho.

I really wish to know what the hell went on in that heart of hers as she met the daughter of the man that took everything that meant life to her away. I want to know!So much respects I have for her not losing it and killing Miho any other time. Sometimes she came close but it was because of Miho’s monster of a husband that Kako’s dark side would rear it’s head.

In trying to learn more about Miho, the two get closer unknowingly. Miho, not having had friends that stayed long after learning of her family, probably gets too attached to Kako who is different from them. Kako on the other hand, might have been suffering with being this close to someone related to her family’s killer but she had motives, which included making Miho pay for what her father did that train didn’t make it to the last station.

It was probably thanks to evil husband and his abuse of Miho that took the hate away from Miho and towards her husband who abused her at home so much that finally he caused a miscarriage of Miho’s child. That was also the straw that brought Kako’s darkness to the front and made her suggest the murder of him. I wear she was like Satan himself the way she seduced Miho into killing! She gave me the chills man. Miho may be the killer’s daughter but Kako was way more scary! She was dead on the inside after all.

In the end though, Kako sees the error of her ways in trying to start a circle of revenge, which would have gone all the way to Miho’s child (were she to have one) so she stops Miho from killing the Dude. Needless to say, the divorce papers were filed faster than the hammer was thrown and after attempting murder, with the Dude still alive, Miho had no choice but to skip town! But before she went…

Kako: I want to do more with you. Give me a call next time you are in town.
Miho: Okay, I will.
…Both smile stupidly at each other
Miho: There is something I want to do with you now.
Kako: What?
Miho: Don’t laugh okay? If you do I’ll…I’ll get mad.
…Miho sets her bags down and smoothes closer to Kako.
…ENTER One of the hottest kisses ever!

Seriously though…These two are in the God Tier category of Japanese Actresses so to see them two kissing is just…I don’t even…

So there you have it….

This is one of the movies I always go back to when I have nothing new to watch. Other than the basic yuri, the emotions this movie invokes from me always keeps getting me back! Rina, Asami and Maki were simply brilliant in Shinku.
