Those smiles
Whatever happened to them?!
Are the creators of this anime ultra sadists or something? And here I thought that Urobuchi-sensei was bad! But not even he tortures his fans like this?!
How much more are they going to stab us in our Kanade wounds with a freezing sharp metal? And as if that weren’t enough, they go and…and…
Damn it all!
But despite all this I just can’t seem to keep my eyes away from Symphogay. This anime is just so awesomely spectacular!!
This episode kicks things off with a flashback to Kanade and Tsubasa’s first meeting. And girl, was Kanade unlike the Kanade we have come to know! For starters she’s in a straight jacket, in an interrogation room of all things. She is wild and totally pissed off at everything and scaring the poor little Tsubasa. Wait, what the hell is she even doing there? Shouldn’t this be an adult thing? I mean she had to watch as Kanade went through hell to attain the power that will help her avenge her family’s demise at the hands of Noise. So disappoint in this anime’s childcare services.
But anyways, Kanade it turns out was really bitter in the beginning, though she seemed to be real nice to Tsubasa even back then. It was also real touching to see that it was Kanade that confessed to Tsubasa first with their marriage vows of singing together forever. Actually now that I think about it, it all makes sense. I had ignored it because I couldn’t find an explanation of it before, and I don’t know if anyone remembers but when Kanade was about to disappear, Tsubasa begged her not to leave and confessed that she wanted to sing with Kanade forever. Kanade’s reaction was very eye-catching but I dismissed it at the time, only now it makes sense.
Tsubasa was only answering Kanade’s feelings and Kanade’s reaction was of one who’s feelings have been returned, at least from all those death confessions I’ve seen before. So Kanade was waiting all this time for an answer? Only to receive it at her death bed!? Cruel, this story is.
Cutting to the present, we delve right back where the last episode ended with our girls facing an enemy on a whole new level! As a fan of action, I have to say that I almost had to take a bath right after that fight scene! God! This new girl is no frikking pushover. She is a bitch character, well she might be, but her prowess is nothing to joke about. Using only a whip, okay granted it is no ordinary whip but it is still a whip. using that, she gave our Tsubasa, who had refined herself into a sword after losing her other half, a run for her…err…life and it didn’t seem like she was really trying that much.
So badass was she that Tsubasa had to resort to the Symphogear’s ultimate move that took Kanade’s life. Too bad the results were not as expected, in more ways than one! First, the finishing move did not finish off anything, well it did end the fight but the mysterious girl escaped! I mean she had the energy to escape, that says a lot. On the other hand, Tsubasa too, who should be a spec of dust on the wind, literally, still lives, even though she’s under layers of bandages in bed! I guess the life-saving tech improved that much over the course of two years. That or Kanade-Ojou-sama is that precious!
The moment when Tsubasa approached a frozen [mysterious girl] I thought for a moment there that they were going to have some weird make out scene. Now that would be one strange moment. I mean Tsubasa had on the ‘U gonna git…’ game face on and [mysterious girl] really had that ‘Oh Shi…Moment’ face on. I let out a breath I hadn’t known I was holding when nothing but [mysterious girl]’s pained screams followed. Actually I find that I have fallen for [mysterious girl]. She is just so awesome and I love her, kind of, black hole attack! I bet there is more too from whence that came and it doesn’t look like she is a real bad guy, more like on different side of things. Very much looking forward to more of her.
Ah but this wouldn’t be our show to end things just like that. We just don’t have meaningless fights in this show…(And will somebody please tell that to Tsubasa when she wakes up?). Apparently the mysterious girl had come for Hibiki! Like, who in their right minds would want her APART from Miku that is! And for what, her Yuri Power potential?! But as if that weren’t a shock already, it is made clear, kind of, that the Noise might be controlled and sent by other people! Episode 4 and mysterious organisations are already stepping up their game! Things don’t look good for our Hibiki at all!
Speaking of Hibiki, she finally understands the stupidity of the that thought she had before about replacing Kanade. She finally knows that not only was it a very disrespectful idea but impossible and stupid too. Also we learn that she does have family, a mother and grannie. So what did she mean that Miku was the only one she could…
Oh God Miku! After the half way mark I was starting to get worried that we would have an episode without Miku! it sure looked that way as she didn’t appear until the very end but Oh Lord when she did….
Those Hands!
Hibiki is in a slump contemplating over her stupidity and what she should do about her inability and ZOOM – On the scene steps none other than waifu Miku. Hibiki tries to lie her way out of her sour mood but this is her waifu she’s talking to here so she is seen through like a glass dress! Hibiki still can’t spill government secrets (in order to protect the one precious to her of course) so she asks Miku to let her see this through on her own.
But Miku is no ordinary waifu! While she does agree to Hibiki’s request, still holding onto Hibiki’s hand – which I swear she was going to drop after Hibiki asked her to leave her alone with her problems – she intelligently still helped Hibiki out, with some crazy magic-fu wording! All I got from all that mind-morphing speech was that no matter what happens, Hibiki should stay herself and not change – not for anyone or anything. And that as long as she stays herself, Miku will always be hers – Oops! I mean Miku will always support her. Hibiki’s worries that might have gone on for days have just been solved in a minute or less!
Miku for Waifu No.1 Ladies and Gentlemen.
And so while she only appeared for a scene, it was one important scene that made me like her even more, if possible. And to finish things off they make another promise to a date, they must attend this one or else. Something I found amusing as well was the timing when Miku appeared right after Hibiki says there are some things she wants to protect too, in her flashback…Heh…
Tsubasa and Kanade’s relationship is also still living on, although it pains me every time I see it. While in a coma, Tsubasa dreams of Kanade but something is wrong. Dearest Hasbando in heaven is not happy with Tsubasa for some reason. I guess it has to do with Tsubasa trying to off herself so easily. Did Hasbando Kanade see through Tsubasa’s lies of singing the death song not to finish off the enemy but to release herself from this world so she could be with her Kanade?!
We shall just have to wait for the next episode to see if this really was the case.
~
Damn, I frikkin love this anime! BRS and Saki better bring their best game when they appear on the playing field because Symphogay is already taking names over here!
Peace out…

Even in pain, Miku continues being a wonderful waifu for her dearest Hibiki. Oh the pain. Also, more Kanade awesomeness. Seriously writers, CURSE YOU! Tsubasa attemped a kamikaze but failed because I think Kanade didn’t want to see her beloved waste her life for naught.
I look forward to your reactions of episode 5. Let’s just say it’s a doozy.

Tohoho?
I wonder what you mean by doozy?
I actually screened through it already and don’t know what I think of it so I am going to watch it again normally!
We shall see…
