OMG! They did THE pose!?!! I don’t believe it!

Parallel to the other post about my top 10 books, this post is about the other kind of reading – Fan Fiction!

And just as how I can spend many nights in bed under low light re-reading Fingersmith, there is one Fan Fic that stand thousands of miles ahead of the rest that I spend boring college time re-reading on the screen!

That Fic is the one and only ‘ABSENCE’. An exceptional Sailor Moon Fan Fic tackling the volcanic relationship of Hino Rei (My favourite Senshi) and Tsukino Usagi! And as if the Fic wasn’t enough, the author, Kirika, one of my favourite Fan Fiction authors, went and started on a sequel of this epic adventure called Past Lives. Can something be anymore JAW-some?!

I think all Rei/Usagi fans out there can agree with me when I declare that…

Absence is the greatest Rei/Usagi Fic out there~

Now then, onto my other stories that I enjoyed so very much. Please keep in mind that this decision was so damn hard! There are a lot of fics I love and apart from the top 3, the rest are not 100% in scaling. I repeat, this decision was so hard!

Absence

I simply cannot express enough the love I have for this story. Before reading it, I had considered myself the greatest Rei fan to ever grace this little blue orb in space I call home. And girl was I wrong! The Rein in this story is…God! There is no wonder whatsoever that she won the best characterisation. The story is so long (I do like my stories super long) but despite all that, Kirika handled her characters so well, especially Rei, that even lengthy chapters in, the characters still have the essence they had in the beginning.

Kirika simply conquered with this story.

As we know, haeting on Mamoru is an everyday occurrence to us Rei/Usagi fans but I found myself liking him, well, that’s a strong word, I found myself not haeting on him in this story because Kirika wrote all the characters that well. Both the girls’ conflicts were as clear as day and sweet as wine throughout the story, especially Rei!

If Kirika released a book version of this story, I would so, like, buy it and stuff!

This story is simply fantastic and edging on perfection.

READ IT – if you haven’t yet. And I dare you all Rei/Usagi fans out there, to find me a story better than Absence! I trillion dare you!

Thirteen Steps

This story is so complicated! Actually, it might not be to others but to me, I had to read this story so so slowly, repeating sentences so I can grasp what the hell I am reading…Oh wait! This is what great stories are all defined by! This story, in words dear Readers, it THAT good! I can guarantee you that you will have to read it a couple of times, in fact you will be compelled to re-read it as you go along because it is that much of a mind-bender!

Even after all these reads I am still confused. I know it is primarily a Wiffy (Buffy/Willow) story but there is a lot of Buffy/Faith in there as well, especially in the second take (Another Thirteen Steps).

What I love about this fic the most is that it continues onto the eighth season (ie kind of a continuation – I love those) and it also doesn’t shy away from Dark Willow. Now here is the thing, Dark Willow is quite a character. I have read many fics that handle her so badly that I always come away short from smashing the keyboard but valyssia found the perfect match. A complicated character in an even more complicated story!

Oh Lawd!

And another thing to love is the dialogue. I hope I am not the only one who always goes into Buffy fics expecting the witty dialogue of the TV series! Many fics fail at this but not this one. valyssia’s dialogue is even more witty and twisteder (it’s a word now) than that of the TV! You best believe it!

If you remember just a few posts back, I whined about the decimation of relationships in TV shows (in my Nikita post)? Well, Buffy and Willow are one of those couples. It brings me incredible joy to see that there were many great fans who are also great writers that felt unsatisfied by these lovely characters’ relationship in the show. If valyssia re-wrote the series from the beginning, I would take it over the original show.

I am that tempted to take this fic over the whole show now, actually!

You have to look at all the awards these fics have grabbed while there…Madness I tell you!

Dear Sakura

Regular readers of fan fiction will agree that there are many great fics about these two. Tomoyo and Sakura were like my first loves in yuri couples and I have read a lot of fics about them. This one in particular stands out from the rest though.

Now here is the thing, there are rules I have when it comes to fan fiction and one of them is not reading time-slip fan fictions. By this I mean fics that take place in the future where the characters are not the same at all from the original storyline. In CCS’s regard, I was especially pissed at fics that were about grown up Tomoyo and Sakura! Like, if the creators wanted them all grown up, they would have done so in the main story. So don’t fuck with us like.

That is what I was like but then I read this story!

It takes place after Sakura and Li’s wedding and Sakura has moved to Hong Kong to live with the new family over there. Tomoyo and Sakura are exchanging letters trying to fill the other in about each other’s life and I gotta say, I have never been so thrilled reading letters before or after than when I was reading this fic.

Grown up Tomoyo and Sakura were very well executed in this story and the plot was marvellous! When Tomoyo finally went to visit Sakura in Hong Kong….

The Edge

NOW…Now before anyone jumps in joy trying to GIVE ME FIVE in congratulations to joining the twilightfaggatory, I am sorry to disappoint but I am not one of you!

Well, at least I think not!

Does the fact that I am so into the Fan Fiction writers’ universe of Twilight make me a twi-fag? If so, then I guess I shall take those fives now!

fembuck’s take on the lovely pixy-like-sparkling vampiress Alice and the FAIL of humanity Bella is one thrilling ride of words! Starting in the events of New Moon and then taking a personal twist on the story into the end of the series, fembuck simply forced my jaw on the floor and nailed it there!

If I am a billionaire sometime in the future, I will so take this fic and turn it into a ALTERNATIVE REBOOT of the twilight movies in ten years or so!

Hmm, I guess it’s time to start playing Lotto then because I actually want to see this movie happen!

Retelling of Oriental Stories

To those who know of it, Touhou is a very very big fandom with a very very wide variety of ships than there is chances of winning the lotto! it is the one fandom that instead of envying super fans that know every girl and thus all their ships, you instead pity them because by the gods! I almost had a tumour when I first delved into the Touhou Project from the sheer wilderness of it all.

The one thing that saved me was that even before I was familiar with Touhou, I had already fallen in love with the Scarlet Devil Mansion and I was shipping Remilia/Sakuya like there was a devil inside me. So to try and avoid falling into madness, I decided to start slow and take a different route thus finding my way into fan fiction.

Shockingly, despite the size of the fandom, good fics of it are so very very rare. But low and behold as it seemed that a higher power was watching over me – I came upon usuallydead.com. Now at the time of searching, I was looking for Remilia and Sakuya fics so when I started reading the site’s fics, I had no idea that not only would I find a fic that would introduce me to a lot of characters of Touhou but that in addition to my original goal I would also awaken within me the ultimate ship of Touhou and that is…

Sakurei AKA Sakura/Reimu

If you want to read the others as well, click on the author’s link above but if you read only the links provided, you won’t miss anything. Those there are the flow of the Sakuya/Reimu/Marisa story – from their first meeting when Reimu and Marisa invaded the Scarlet Devil Mansion to the extra bit (Sakurei) that concludes and settles things between Sakuya and Reimu.

That there, was the best way to end a story if I ever saw one!

Vagrants Rhapsody

This in the only FFVII story that has satisfied me. I am never that into game fiction since I don’t play a lot but even I know as much about FF world and after FFXIII, FFVII is my second favourite. This story too is the future kind but since it is only two years later, and kind of based on a game, and the slip kind of fits into the plot, I let it slide and read on. Tifa and Yuffie are my favourite FFVII characters and this is my favourite ship in there as well so I was compelled to sit my butt down and read!

I have no regrets!

Bad Blood

DELICIOUS delicious twincest that is abso-frikkin-lutely WINCEST! That is what Bad Blood is!

About Blood+, I so love the Blood series and before Akemi Homura descended into the picture, Diva was my all time favourite anime character. So you can damn well be sure that I search for her fics madder than those kids playing at Hungry Games! And seeing as there is no one that is suited to be Diva’s partner (She is frikkin Queen FCOL) there could only be one option – another Queen Saya herself. And so the search was on.

I was so happy to find that it didn’t take long before I found out that That Fan, my favourite fan fiction author, had already started on one – Bad Blood. I love That Fan. Sometimes I think that they can read my mind because they write about all the couples that I ship! It’s frikkin weird I tell you! it is so weird that I like it and the fact that they have written almost 10% of my all my favourite reads, there is no doubt that they would be my top writer!

Bad Blood is a kind of a parallel story going almost, almost side by side with the original story but diverging just enough to put  twist on Saya and Diva’s fate!

I read it every time I hear or see the word VAMPIRE!

Starless

When it comes to FFXIII, I am an avid Farroncest shipper first and foremost. Sadly though, I have yet to find a mind-blowing story about them.

Sigh

Now to to say there are no fics of them because there are…a lot! It seems there are way more shippers of the Farrons than I had thought there would be. This is a good thing because it promises of a bright future and possibilities of that fic that will take my breath away or two, or more.

It was with this disappointment that I delved into other ships like my second favourite of Fanille (Fang/Vanille), tested out Serah/Vanille even Fang/Serah while I was at it. There were a good few Fanille but it was when I got to Lightning/Vanille that things started getting interesting and soon I found my way to Starless.

I am not a fan of angsty fics but this story kicked my preferences over the cliff and into the river beyond. I found myself many times blinking to clear my vision because of all the damn tears. Some time I even had to sleep because my heart could not take anymore of them deep feelings!

This is one bitter sweet fic my fellow visitors!

How in the World

You may all deny it all you want but I am pretty sure that there are visitors here who, like me, though are pretty aware of where the show stands, we can’t help but ship Rei/Asuka. It just can’t be helped. Add in the fact that even the official artists seem to not have the strength to resist the temptation – what with all that official goodness in the form of art, this is the ultimate CRACK ship in anime fandom!

And so just like an addict, I have scrapped the walls of the internet searching in all the crooks to find Rei/Asuka fics. Thank the gods that the infection is worldwide because there are a lot of fics about these two. While in the sea of loveliness, guess whose fic I stumble upon next….

I want to hunt down That Fan and shower them with epic kisses because it seems like they were born to write for me. I am sorry but that’s how it looks like. Every time I needed a read, they were already there with a fix! How can I not love them, like!

The story follows a different path but what surprised me about this fic is that while I kind of thought their Asuka was a little OOC, when the Rebuild movies rolled around, the all new Asuka (Shikinami) was just like their Asuka! Like, can you say…

MIND = BLOWN!

Crazy Little Things

Yes, even in magic I believe!

First of all, I have to cry out to anyone who knows if the replacement (or new home) of GIRLS DOMITORY archive site to please tell meeeeeeeeeeeeeee! That site had a great deal of fic when it was online but since I was new to fandoms, I never took the time to save anything and I was pretty sure there were a gazillion HP femslash there. This was way back when there were like only two HP movies out. I cry every time I search for HP femslash and only find fics of 10000 words and less.

Which is why I feel like if I had had those stories saved, there would be more HP stories on this list but alas! Now I have to settle for the modern fics but within those is this little gem from one of the famous shoujo-ai authors that you might know, Dreiser.

The fic takes place after the end of HP story with Hermione and Luna in college.For a fic that can be summed up as ‘Luna seducing Hermione’, the execution was excellent and I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the screen. Eye stress? I felt nothing apart from the joy in the words that were filling my brain as I read the whole story in one go!

Best LHr fic I have read so far!
