I am a Hero アイアムアヒーロー

So, there is this zombie apocalypse movie (yes, another one) that recently came out from Japan that got my goggles re-assessed to find out if they are still doing their job right! It has occurred to me that I have been posting about a lot of legit yuri that doesn’t require goggles at all so I figured they needed some re-calibration!

Who am I kidding, the only reason I got this movie was because Nagasawa-kun was in it along with Kasumi-chan. Also the fact that it is a horror movie. Horror is my favourite genre after all, until yuri is made an official genre that can have award nominations that is. And so I went and checked it out.

The movie seems to be based off of a Manga but I am not going to go checking it out, unless someone who has read it tells me otherwise. Movies usually take liberties and in this case I can tell that I would regret checking out that manga so I am going to stick with the movie, thank you very much.

Nagasawa Masami plays Yabu, a woman who used to be a nurse that feels regret at her earlier actions when the breakout first happened. She ran away saving only her self and no one else. Arimura Kasumi on the other hand plays Hiromi, a high school girl that runs into our protag and redeems him and Yabu along the way, while she on the other hand was turning less and less human. We don’t run into Yabu until a bit later into the movie when Hiromi is already turned!

Basically the movie is about a breakout and then surviving in the post-apocalyptic world. There are many mysteries left to solve, which are really making me want to go read that Manga but I am going to resist! No matter how much I want to know the fate of Hiromi and her powers, or how the relationships progress, I am going to resist! Let’s just stick to the movie…

And so we continue on with another movie in the R18 releases. Those into anime will know of this series about a little sister who gets haunted by a ghost. I am not familiar with the story as I only watched the first episode because of a cap about the girl and the ghost doing it. All I know is that the ghost is collecting the Imouto’s nectar for something. They explain it in the movie but I guess it was too dumb to stick because I don’t remember the reasons exactly and I am not about to sit through this again any time soon.

If you know of the story ‘Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashii’, then you know that the yuri in this is like the yuri in any other none 100% yuri pron movie! The yuri was just there! The story would have done perfectly fine without it, which was really annoying because in the movie, the yuri made sense! If the Sister had ended up with the Ghost, it would have made perfect sense but alas. Just another harem like this world hasn’t had enough harems to outlast the Sun!

Or, is it?

This movie was kind of disappointing to me in the yuri department. The sex was awesome! They had everything to produce a very nice yuri movie. They gave Imouto-chan the main role and that means she and ghost were the mains with the Brother being there just for the sake of sticking to the original story’s plot! I say that but I have no idea what the original story is since the movie is the only medium I have seen in its entirety. For all I know the movie changed the original story quite a bit. Anyway they had the basis of a great yuri movie but they went and totally fucked this up during the last arc! But did they really? I can’t tell because that last third of the story was shit! It was like they didn’t know what the hell to do or what direction to go in. So what we got was what some would consider an OPEN-END.

Still, Mitsuki/Hiyori won in every department possible to compare except happily ever after but even then…OPEN-END, remember? Still, this was a pain to sit through. Let’s see what’s up…

Gion Bayashi [J-Movie]

Gion Bayashi 祇園囃子

Continuing onto the oldies of Japan that I said I would be discussing. First we had a look back to 1985 with ‘Taifu Club’. We then went a bit back into time 13 years earlier (1972) with ‘Tabi no Omosa’. I found yet another which is really old, well, by our standard that is.

It is ‘Gion Bayashi’ – A 1953 drama movie about a girl who wishes to be a Maiko/Geisha after her mother’s passing and moves to an old acquaintance of her mother’s to learn the ways of a Maiko. The film was directed by Kenji Mizoguchi and the story was set in post-war Japan – Not the best of times. The movie was old school black and white but the version I watched was touched up a bit so it was very watchable.

The reason I wanted to talk about these movies was to show how even back then yuri was already a thing. But while in the other two movies the scenes were mature, in this movie we got the yuri most of us are used to that isn’t in a pron title. It was so light and could easily be dismissed which is why this won’t be the typical movie post. It is going to be very short (serious this time) because I am only going to explain this one scene. Actually this movie is one that is worth the title of this blog. You would not see it unless you were looking for it which is why the yuri-goggles are needed for this one.

To tell the truth I wasn’t expecting anything! I went in looking for some nice family bonds and that was all but I instead got something much more. It was subtle but when it clicked my emotions went into over-drive. With all the talk of Geisha not being allowed to fall in love with their clients but there being some kind of rule of having a patron that was like their husband even though they weren’t married, with the men being in love with the main girls too made yuri almost impossible. And so I wasn’t expecting it.
