Finally! Some good Mermaid Smexing!

Ahem!

Come on, I know it is not just I who had some fish sex fantasies, no thanks to shows like SIREN and movies like BLUE MY MIND! They never delivered so it can’t be helped that we fantasize about such things, it is the way of life!

Thanks to a certain Horror Short Film that I stumbled upon on YouTube when I was raiding it for short horror films as is the right time of the year for such cravings, we finally have those fantasies realised! Yeah, sure they were still in their human form but still, that’s one giant leap forward!

I was actually surprised at the quality of films I found! If a genre was made for short film category, it’s the horror genre! It is surprising how you can scare someone in mere minutes!

Now, while LA SIRENA (which even though I don’t know what language that is I can guess it means The Siren), while this is not that scary, it does deliver in the only other department that matters on this blog and by the gods, was that gay!!!

As per many short film characteristics, the movie leaves one with many questions but really, we will forget about them sooner rather than later but what we won’t forget is the great make out scene that I believe took up like, a third of the movie’s length!

See, some geniuses know what is important! Hell, taking the words right out of BLY MANOR’s Flora’s mouth – It is not a horror story, it is a love story!

Anyway, short story shorter – Mia our main girl (Yeah, I know what you are thinking!), finds a woman on the shore in the rocks caught in a fish net. She has a hook sticking out of her belly and checking on her to find she’s still alive, Mia takes the woman into her home to look after her! The two grow closer and Mia in her thirst for contact ends up sleeping with the woman but just as she reaches nirvana, the woman uses the hook that was found with her to cut up Mia’s body and leaves her for dead.

Or does she?

You see the movie starts with the ending scene (even though Mia is holding different things in hand), which is of Mia standing alone on the beach. She has the bruise on her cheek at the beginning, which is from her lover and neighbour, who is the fisherman that hurt the woman. That bruise she gets later on and it is in the same state as when she makes out with the mystery woman.

Another throwback is that when Mia is about to peak again, this time during sex with the man, he hits her which is where she gets said bruise. She is again hurt, like I said, during sex by the woman, but hey, at least that time she had reached nirvana before being cut up!

From the get-go you can tell that there is something peculiar about Mia from her behaviour, which will play into the ending, but you never know it until you watch the movie the first time and then it connects that maybe Mia too is a mermaid.

Anyway, if she too was a mermaid, she would have survived the hook to the chest like the woman survived it and also the bruise on her cheek had disappeared too, showing that she was fully healed! She is holding the hook that was used to cut her open so yeah, definitely after the events.

Or, mein gott, what if that ending scene was actually way before the opening scene and it was Mia that broke Mara’s heart (as she too might be a fisherman) and Mara as she said she would do, she killed the person that hurt her? But that doesn’t make any sense. She kept referring to man this and that and Mia seemed really into dicks at the time and there was no shock when Mara first saw Mia so no, that doesn’t make sense and I will forget I mentioned it!

Another connection is that Mara (the mystery woman) says that she was killed by the man she loved and as we see, while he did not physically hurt Mia, her lover also hurt her in the end when they finally broke up, even though he had a wife and a child he still snuck off to Mia.

We also find out that it is the same man that Mara was talking about and she probably knew it from the first time she found his shirt in Mia’s bed and smelled him on it. You could see it and she doesn’t even wonder who he is she just asks if he is coming back that night!

Definitely fishy (no puns here)

There are parallels between the two and somehow Mia knew what to place over Mara’s wound and she did not seem that surprised at times when Mara would let small things slip to show her true nature. Like seeing Mara’s flesh actively heal itself, or see her glowing in the dark or when her pupils change and are definitely not human!

Though not actually revealed to be true, I believe Mia too is a mermaid like Mara, which explains the ending and why the fisherman would betray his wife and child for these two women. Only a mermaid’s siren could sway anyone like that, not to say it isn’t easy to sway men!

As you can see, this is more of a love story than a horror but just so we are clear, it came out eons before BLY MANOR!
