Baiting me w/ yuri n kewlaid NMB? Rly?

Whew! Now that I have reserved my Amazon pre-order of this single…

How dare thee NMB!?! You think you can just flaunt yuri and the good old cool PVs in my face and I will be back to buying your singles?! Well, you are right in thinking that! I have not bought anything from NMB since Don’t Look Back (because of Yukirin) and nothing before that since Maachun left (and incidentally breaking up my by then 2nd favourite ship – Sayacchu).

And now with more than half the 1st gen gone and going, I thought there would never come a day when I buy another NMB single but lo and behold – They go and release a monster and I love my monster singles! Not only is the A-side cool as all hell bringing back that NMB of old and momentarily back, they go and add in two yurific b-sides in there for that double-tap move! Like, I am not made of stone! The most surely got me with the two yuri vids, especially that Kinoshita one (Holy molly Kinoshita is centering!!?!) but then they went and made the A side one to die for! I love my cool singles as you know. My tope 10 of the whole 48 G consists mostly of the cool songs (Beginner, Uza, Kazefu, Virginity, J_19, KuroShoujo, Two Years Later, etc) so you know my resistance in this matter was as good as the Borg would say – futile!

First off, what’s up with that Kinoshita PV?! Who is that girl?!! I have been out of NMB for a while now that I do not even know if she is a member or not! Is she a member? If she is, who is she? tell me you all NMB royals out there! Strangely enough my first thought was that she was not a member and with that my mind went into overdrive coming up with strange ideas like her being Ex-Nogizaka Itou Nene! Oh come on, she looks like her, don’t she?

And damn that Kinoshita! She looks so in love with that girl that the other delusions was that she was her real life girl-friend and that she is actually putting her into the MV and we are here clueless not knowing nothing! Dear Lord if it is actually Kinoshita’s GF Imma gonna…And how cool does Kinoshita look in that wool jacket?! How cool the members with her are, like did you think Moka could be cool?! I most certainly did not. Now I know that any NMB member is capable of being cool!

Okay, maybe not Azusa but hey, they need some cute in there, amirite!

Then there is that Team M b-side! Barring my confusion wondering when the hell did Uuka, Nagisa and Akarin become Team M members when I soon found out that there was a shuffle that happened (understandably since many members are leaving), I have a feeling I am gonna have a blast feeding my delusions of who is with whom when the full PV gets here. For example there seems to be a chaotic threesome going on between Nagisa, Akarin and Mirurun, then there is the S&M pair with Renapyon and we have the cutesly Uuka and Chihii!

And finally let’s not forget that lovely cool A side that is an all out dance battle themed PV! Like, how cooler can they get than that! And did I spy some gayness between Saepi and Reinyan, Jo-chan and Riripo in there too?! Is every other PV gay in here?! Give me my DVDs right now Japan?!!!

Congrats NMB, you have managed to gran be back (temporarily, okay? Temporarily!) with this 16th ‘Boku igai no dare ka’ single! Take all my money for all versions of the single, just this one more time, okay?! This is the last time!!

The Age of Yuri!

Sweet, sweet tears! I so happy right now dear Readers, so very happy! Why is that, you might ask? Well, it is thanks to the event that just took place in Korea – The 37th Blue Dragon Awards, one of the two most recognised awards in Korea, and my lovely movies and actresses above came away with prizes!

What a world we live in!

First up is of course Ahgassi/The Handmaiden, and I do not think that I need to mention yet again what this movie means to me. Fine, I will do it. It’s no big deal really. After all, Ahgassi is only my favourite movie of all time!!!

Ahem!

The Handmaiden was nominated for quite a few awards this time around; Best Picture (Obviously), Best Director (no duh), Best Leading Actress (um hello!), Best Female New-comer (seriously), Best Cinematography (really?), Best Music (Jesus Christ people) and Best Technical Design!

Mein Gott!! Aren’t those all the awards? Okay, no but there are two that it should have been in as well; Best Screen play and Best Editing but I get where they were coming from. That would have been just too much and if it had won those it would have won Best Film which really let’s be serious here – A lesbian movie winning Best Film? In Korea? Not on the Government’s watch it cannot! And also goes for Best Director because being best Director means it comes with either Best Picture or Screenplay and Editing so really, it all comes down to simple mathematics!

But really, who gives a tick!?! I don’t care!! As far as I am concerned it won most of the important awards. Park Chan-wook should have gotten Best Director but alas. I watched the Wailing and train to Busan and I was like, seriously?! You know, I have come to a conclusion that putting some sucker punch in the FEELs department is what constitutes to a good movie these days. Some guy sacrifices themselves to save a little girl and tears everywhere, awards everywhere! Like, seriously!

Anyway, as I was saying, all the important awards we got and the most important of them all being Best Leading Actress which went to our lovely and most definitely missed, Kim Min-hee! Despite everything, despite the despair I felt when I saw that she was the only nominee not in attendance, we all got floored when she was actually announced as the winner! Oh, here comes the FEELs again, raining down like tragedy, raining down like a new emotion…

Okay, slow down me! Sorry about that dear Readers. Back on track, once again Kim Min-hee snatches the Best Actress award (the first being from the Directors’ Choice Awards) for her role as ‘Ahgassi’. I am so not crying! I will so not cry too when T-ara manages something similar in the future! And just like the first half, the other half – The Handmaiden, our lovely fresh-meat Kim Tae-ri also once again snatched the Best New Actress Award!

Friends, hold me!

Oh how I wish that Kim Min-hee was there! How I wish to have seen the two interact like all those times before, just the two of them, in their own world, my Korean Mayuki! I believe that the sheer power of their love would have snatched up that Best Film award had they been there together! But alas, Min-hee was not there, leaving our poor Baby all by herself…or was she?

So, if anyone is feeling a need to fantasize about what the two could have been to had Min-hee been around, jump over for some nostalgia pics of the two being love.

But what of the lovely Bae (Doona). What does she have to do with anything? Well, our Mistress got herself one really important prize and that was the Actress Popularity Award. Why am I mentioning her here? Well, she is only a Lead in ‘As One’ and ‘A Girl at My Door’, two movies in my Top 10 yuri movies list. It’s no big deal at all!!

And of ‘The World of Us’? Most of you probably did not know, really, neither did I, that the director of that movie was actually just making her debut with that movie! That’s right, that was her debut and she won the Best New Director Award deservingly! See people, both new (her – Yoon Ga-eun) and old (Park Chan-wook) directors are pushing the world in the right direction by bring awareness and reducing prejudice of homosexuality and other humanitarian issues through quality work! Others need to and I am sure are going to follow their example and soon it will be the Age of Yuri and CBMs!

What a time to be alive! What a year! Seriously 2016, you are awesome!

Yep! Just found my Christmas 2016 song and I couldn’t be happier! What a year! Seriously, what a year! But apparently the goodness is not over yet! After about a year away doing a tour in China, my favourite KPop group is back, with yet another one of their ‘feel-so-good’ songs that they alternate with the catchy dance songs. In addition to this, next month is also seeing the release of my Goddess’ First Tour Blu-ray and her Majisuka Gakuen Play as well! Which by the way, are both already up for pre-order!

The only way I could be happier is if Plain Archives suddenly put up a steel box for The Handmaiden to be purchased before Christmas! Then life would be perfect! Perfect I say! Sadly we have to settle for so good instead!

Anyway back to the topic at hand – I really missed T-ara this past year to the point of thinking they were going to disband soon. But they have pushed on through their harshest of times so that makes me an embarrassment to all the Queens out there. Dear Queens, I am very sorry for doubting our girls for even a second!

With the distance also came the changes in some of the girls. Jiyeon is of course still Jiyeon, anyone can recognise her from anywhere no matter what she does to her looks. Same goes for Boram, that ageless Idol! Seriously, is that girl…excuse me…is that woman really over 30 now?! Impossiburu (Bane voice)! She is still the cutest of the members even now! Hyomin is as sexy as ever and Soyeon is still as wonderfully cool as snow!

No, who surprised me most was our new fearless Leader Qri (taking over after Soyeon). But really, I shouldn’t be surprised by this since I have had difficulty with her and Hyomin when I first got into T-ara when it came to distinguishing them apart. This time too I found myself making judgemental mistakes especially in distant takes. But then the close-up comes and you are bombarded with that cute mole on her nose and you slap yourself for being so silly! Surely it isn’t just me? These two have a certain resemblance to them and more so in Tiamo!

What about the song and PV though? Well, just like most A-sides, I am totally in love with this song! It is one of those gentle songs from them like I said, reminiscent of songs like ‘Don’t Leave’, ‘Good Person’, ‘Day by Day’ or ‘Cry Cry’. I love those types of songs so much. And since this is a Christmas/Holiday song, the PV is simple and short, which it should be. With it we also get a simple dance choreography that is for sure to get some people swaying their hips to it in a few days or less.

What I am left wondering is when we will be getting another story mode mv from them! And with some gayness too! No thanks to the protestors we are never going to get another Dani being devoured and damnit all, I still miss my girl Areum (T_T). But seeing as things seem to stay the same – great looking PVs, catchy choreos and awesome music, I am sure we will be getting one again. Now that the tour is done, I doubt we will have to wait another year for the next come-back.

Lily Girl [J-Web-Series]

So, I am not sure how many of you remembers dear Readers, but there was a time when I shared some news about a new yuri series titled ‘Lily Girl’ but as you can guess, I totally forgot about it! The reason I did had to do with the fact that I thought it would be a real series. A Web Series but a series none the less. Well, it is a series, by definition, in that it does have three different parts/episodes but also a series it is not. Well, not the type of series I was expecting. And so I waited and waited for the actual series to drop but it never did. I then came to the hurtful truth!

There would be no more than what we have on YouTube already. On the official channel there, there are some teaser videos and three longer parts about the three different ‘couples’. Those videos are not longer than 6 minutes. I have already watched them all a long time ago but I thought they were only teasers of what was to come – which I was waiting for. What I was waiting for never came and so this week while I was cleaning up my drives I came across those videos and it occurred to me that this was all we would be getting. It was all that was promised.

And so that is why I am now writing about this short, very short series. Three episodes in total, all 5 minutes more or less and now is the perfect time to write about them I think, because these little episodes are the epitome of a challenge. They are on that line of where most won’t know if it is yuri or simply friendship. In fact those who are not yuri fans will only see friendship while the ones with yuri on the brains will see nothing but yuri.

Actually speaking of which, I wish to take this opportunity to put the definition of YURI on this site. It has occurred to me that I have not even thought of doing that before. I kind of took it for granted that those who came to visit this site were already familiar with the terms ‘yuri’, ‘girls love’ or ‘shoujo-ai’. And so I am going to do it here.

What is ‘YURI’ exactly?

These definitions are courtesy of the Japanese Wikipedia page which I came across when I googled – ‘yuri tte nani?’ I am not sure why I need to but I will point out the part at ‘ friendships close to love’! It has been like that since far back when I first got into yuri, and by far back I mean the ShoujoAi.com days. In those days Shoujo-Ai was all the rave because it was the term we most associated with ‘pure yuri’. The term ‘yuri’ back then was used to describe the extreme content where it was obvious that female homosexuality was happening. This of course included the likes of porn or hollow yuri in these so called Idol DVDs that were kind of a soft porn anyway.

These days we have forgotten all about ‘Shoujo-Ai’ even though Japan still use it with ‘Girls Love’. Now everything is called yuri which confuses most people who think that yuri is all but normal romantic relationships except between women only, which means that things like unrequited crushes or non END-GAME relationships are usually not considered yuri!

Why can’t there be different types of yuri? Just as there are different species of Lilies (Flowers), it is only natural that there should be different kinds of yuri. Different kinds of love, different kinds of connections and relations. It all makes common sense. Also you might notice that out of all the lily flowers, the one most used as the signature representation is the purest of them all – the white lily.

To me, and I think it should show my tastes in yuri, that flower choice is very telling. I prefer ‘pure’ yuri compared to the heavy and dense one served on the silver platter. There are of course some exceptions like Fingersmith/The Handmaiden but let’s be real here, that is the epitome of quantitative yuri. There is awesome plot, awesome characters and most of all, it has the thing I look forward to most in stories – from zero to hero (or in this case, from the two characters never having met or having zero feelings for one another to them turning into soul mates. Ahgassi has this in spades. Seriously, if there is one fandom I can always give as an example on how to write stories it is Fingersmith/Ahgassi!

Anyway that does it for the explanations. Let’s move on onto Lily Girl.
