There is no denying that the main movie will have left quite a lot, if not all quite disappointed, or angry, or just around sad because Shishunki Gokko just had to be a typical Japanese yuri movie! And by that I mean no happy end here! Sure they tried to make it ambiguous with that last scene at the library where it looked like Takane had come back to Mika to hopefully patch things up but still, the last act of the movie just didn’t sit well for all of us!

That being said, Shishunki Gokko separates itself from the crowd by doing what has never been done before. It gave us medicine to heal the wounds provided by the main movie in the form of a spin off that is all about Takane and Mika! No other character, and I mean no other character is in this short spin off! Actually, it’s not that short, being just over 30min long!

It’s basically Takane and Mika’s date that they spend at school for some reason. I am inclined to believe that this was because they didn’t get the time to have fun at the pool during the school activities from the main movie so they decided to sneak in when the school is closed so that they could have all the fun they wanted but didn’t get to have.

I believe that I mentioned this too in the main movie review but I still cannot place where this date takes place in the whole timeline. There are some things that come before the movie’s events, then there is those that should take place after some of the movie’s events and then there is those that only make sense after the movie’s events so I am really lost!

If anyone manages to figure out exactly where this ‘Ocean-blue Paradise’ day takes place in the grand scheme of things, please do let me know. That being said, let’s follow our lovely girls as they have all kinds of fun without any interferences!

Ladies and Gentlemen, here we go! The last of the long awaited yuri movies since a year ago today and another of Miki Honoka’s series of dominating projects. This is her best performance to date in any of her works that I have seen and if anyone who watches this does not fall for her till the end of time, I pray for thy wellbeing. She was so good that she made my relationship with this movie so complicated. Even now as we speak, I still find myself lost as to where to place this movie on my list!

Now please there is no reason to panic! Let me assure you that this is a legit yuri movie and in fact there is no het anywhere in sight so stay calm and read on. I have watched this movie about eight times since I got my BD and yet every watch produces a different feeling from me towards the end. But while by that I usually mean that it gets better and better, this time it went back and forth, meaning that I might love it today, but then I watch it again and I am left so angry I wanna throw something! These feelings alternate so you can imagine my confused state as to how to rank this movie!

Remember how back a few months back when I got that Spin off DVD and I mentioned how there had to be a catch for us to be given such an awesome extra of a movie that wasn’t even out yet? Well, watching this movie I was once again proved right. I no longer feel positive about being right anymore! For some reason I am sure that had it been any other movie, the happenings of this movie wouldn’t have affected me that much after all the experience I have but this movie infuriated me from time to time.

From Little Trip (Houkago Lost), to the new movie where she plays a ghost that couldn’t move on to this, I am only praying that poor Miki Honoka did not get irreversible emotional damage from all the hurt her character in all three movies, all three movies that were released in a row suffered through! I obviously haven’t watched the third one (for which she cut her hair I would like to believe but there is another reason I think she cut her hair but much later on that) but the two that I have watched, her character was hurt so deeply that she cried. Her tears in Little Trip were a cake walk for her cries in this movie, let me tell you! I cry every time I watch that scene, but once again, I am getting ahead of myself as usual.

Miki Honoka as Takane & Aoyama Misato as Mika

The movie stars Miki Honoka, a girl that most, if not all of you will be familiar with by now. She first appeared on this blog, and my gaydar too, all the way back in 2010 I believe, when I found out that there was going to be a Live Action Marimite movie and she was playing Yumi, our main character! She was so young back then! She has starred in a lot of dramas and movies since then. She also has a twitter account in case some of you want to join the stalker list that I am on. Honoka plays Takane, the best girl as she is the one once again, that falls in love with the other main of our story.

Aoyama Yuki plays Mika, Takane’s classmate, best friend and secret love, well, until the climax of the movie that is. She loves books and her favourite author is Hanaoka Namie, a librarian at the local library that is a washed out writer despite still being a young woman. Namie plays a major role in the fate of Takane and Mika’s relationship. Mika’s dream is of course to be a fictional writer and though most will miss it, also very intelligent. Sure Takane called her an idiot but I don’t think she was that air-headed. Let’s just say for now that the secret love thing might have been Takane’s view on things. Then again there is the way she acted during the climax but that was kind of realistic, maybe so it is kind of hard to judge her. Before I drive myself crazy, let’s just get this over with, shall we?

All yuri fans out there, I wish to take this opportunity to mention something that I just realised, thanks to this movie. There is no denying that we have to suffer a lot mostly due to BAD ENDs or getting disappointed when for some reason the writers, or the directors get wet feet and suddenly turn our lesbian characters straight or dump that destination of the story all together.

Even with all that, I realised that most of the time, we always get the best stories! It’s not just me, right? I find all yuri stories more thought out, more feel-inducing, more impactful than the normal romance stories. I just figured this out recently so if anyone is looking for a reason as to why they love yuri despite all the pain, here is the reason.

Shishunki Gokko’s story falls into that same awesome story category. Before the movie, no one would think that it would be as serious as it turned out to be. I too was expecting cute girls doing cute things, or straight up fluff yuri (since we knew already from the synopsis that it would be yuri) so I was not fully prepared for what we got.

The final trailer kind of hinted at the seriousness when we saw that look on Takane’s face as she stared Namie down! But even then I did not think that it would be as deep as the movie actually turned out to be. If I were to promise you something about this movie it’s that it takes yuri seriously!

And you can’t even stop me!!!

OMG Kitarie, WTF happened?! I seriously couldn’t stop my mouth dropping through out this whole first episode! And here I thought that Yukirin in KuroMono was way out of the left field! Well, that had nothing on this! This drama and Kitarie are like on the other side of the moon compared to Kurofuku Monogatari!

Now that I think about it, these two are the ones going to NGT. Well, if we had any doubts I guess it’s clear what NGT’s image is going to be! I say thank goodness! I am getting tired of all the lolis! There is enough lolis in the 48G to rival the young populace of Ireland!

To tell the truth I kinda watched the first season because of Kaho (Oh how cute she used to be back in the Queen’s Classroom day) and of course Erina. Yes, just like Yukirin I too had a thing for H!P, still do actually but not as hard as I had it before AKB came into the picture! Mikitty and Reina were my favs back then but Erina was like the fav kid on the H!P block so everyone who was into H!P knew of her and loved her some! I was one of those. Also really, silly shows like this are in great demand these days! The soul just has to be fed from time to time, am I right!

Sure all these Kitarie/Mano moments will probably stay in mousou world of our hero but who cares, breaking the 4th wall means that Kitarie and Erina were actually driving cars seductively over each other’s bodies! Ooh, the eroticism in that sentence is so wrong! And if you watched the first season and thought it crazy, you aren’t prepared for this one! To help you out I will just tip you to multiply the 1st season by a factor of three and you have your second season!

I was kind of sad that Kaho isn’t here for this, but who knows, she might still make it after all, this is taking place in a different city to the one the first one was in so she might come over too. And really, I should be glad that at least Erina returned! She could have easily not made it but we have her still! Then of course there is Kitarie! She was just too good in this first episode of the second season!

I hope that these two’s character gets somewhere beyond that petty jealousy over some Dude! That kinda twist was actually pretty good and I hope they don’t let it wash out and make these two at least get along better in the future. Erina’s character really needs a friend and I hope Kitarie’s character will be that after her father’s issues are resolved.

Still, that mousou scene was just so unexpectedly awesome! Hit the jump for a few more caps…

Oh ye blessed Japan!

---映画『私の少女』メイキング映像.mp4 - 00000

I seriously have no idea where my life would be without Japan! I can honestly say that 70% of the happiness I am feeling in my life currently is because of this blessed country! There isn’t even any doubt about it! Ireland is to thank for the other percentage because without it’s awesome ISPs I would be less off! Seriously, a country that provides 200mb/s speeds for under 100 bucks is one to be proud of!

Back to the post, Japan just went and released some behind the scenes footage of what is turning out to be my favourite Korean movie at the rate things are going titled ‘A Girl at My Door’ or in Korean, where it is actually named after Ron-chan’s character – ‘Do-hee’. I was this close to biting the bait and get the Korean 2-Disc version of the DVD because the wait for Bluray is just murder but then I found out that Japan was going to release it in their theatres which gave me hope for a Bluray, even though it won’t have subs like the DVDs actually have but I am sure I will be able to find those with very little looking. If a DVD exists with the subs then they are on the internet for sure.

And so I held on, and then just as I was about to cave in again and get the DVDs ( hey, what can I say, the temptations is increasing by the passing month!) Japan goes and places even more hope in my heart by releasing this very short sneak peek at the BTS of the movie and by the jolly, such a small amount of scenes and yet I felt like re-watching this movie, again!!! Actually I am going to do just that after this! I don’t think I have ever watched a movie so many times in such a small amount of space like I have this movie! And it has no subs!!! This is not Japanese we are taking about here where my yuri powers give me the ability to understand what is being said, I only know less than 10 words of Korean that I can understand when spoken and these words include just titles, JUST TITLES!!!

So you can imagine how much this movie means to me if I am willing to put up with not understanding a thing all these times I watch it and yet every watch I fall in love with it even more! Actually now that I think about it, even if the Japanese DVD (BD hopefully) doesn’t have subs, if it has dubbed audio, then there is no need for subs because if my yuri powers increase with the amount of love I have for what I am watching then I will turn into a fluent Japanese speaker watching a Japanese version of  ‘A Girl at My Door’!

Oh man, I just went and hyped myself up even more for this movie, didn’t I! Please Japan, do the same thing you did with ‘Wonderful World End’ and release this Bluray like next month or something! I beg of you! But while we wait for that, jump over for the vid and some cute scenes from it…

You know that thing that Japan generally thinks of LGBT? You know, where being gay is a phase that teens go through and that once they are adults they outgrow? Where it’s okay to be gay, as long as you are still young? Well, this is what this movie is about, that is, the  main message it seems to send! That is one of the only two things that I don’t like about this movie! This ‘gay is only a phase’ thing really rubbed me the wrong way! Worse still they even turned it into a curse. A curse that affects only girls because there are no gay men in Japan apparently, oops, I meant gay boys since grown-ups can’t be gay having outgrown such nonsense. I am totally tasting metal in my mouth right now!

The other is that they tried so hard to be intelligent by mixing in human elements into what is supposed to be a supernatural/horror movie! If any one of you watched those promotional videos I posted a while back while this movie was in cinemas, Ayami was saying something about her character Aya being the next Sadako which really brought my hopes up even higher about this movie seeing as I am a great horror fan. So you can imagine my disappointment when in the movie, apparently the Aya ghost was not the one causing all the deaths but rather humans! Okay, that really pissed me off! You can’t compete with Sadako, Kuchisake Onna or any other legendary villains like that, nope! If they had made Ghost Aya the villain that she was supposed to be instead of trying to be wise bums, this would have been a 5 star horror and the birth of the next Gen villain but alas. Seriously, Michi did not even get to take a photo, not a single photo, with that famous camera of the Fatal Frame series we know and love! Not one!!! All the rage!

Other than those two facts, this movie was really great. Which isn’t saying much seeing as those two points I just touched upon are what make this movie’s gears move! You see, the main thread in this movie is that there is a curse that breaks lose when a girl kisses the photo of the girl she likes. Apparently this has been going on for generations in this school (There is a whole gallery of lovers from years past) and up until the current head sister’s school days, the curse was un-stoppable as in every graduating class there was always a couple the loved each other so much that instead of growing up and having to be separated, they would commit suicide in order to freeze their time together forever. The head sister was one of these girls and was in love too once. But when they went to commit suicide together with the girl she loved, the head nun cheated and did not fall with her lover. That apparently broke the curse!

But with Aya’s arrival, the curse began anew. Girls would fall for her to the point of them breaking out the curse all over again by kissing her photo, which we actually find out wasn’t her photo but more on that later. Aya who is also being affected by the curse by being bombarded with weird visions, decides to lock herself in her room for the whole last term. Also because she couldn’t handle the way her fellow students looked at her wherever she would go and as she said, did not understand the feeling of a girl loving another girl (to which Michi replies that she doesn’t even understand the feeling of loving a boy. I gave her 10 points for that BTW!).

And so the movie opens around this time, only a few days left to go before graduation, Aya is still locked up in her room, the girls are going crazy without their Aya, the curse is spreading and getting stronger. And in the process bodies begin to fall like sheep.
