You know that thing that Japan generally thinks of LGBT? You know, where being gay is a phase that teens go through and that once they are adults they outgrow? Where it’s okay to be gay, as long as you are still young? Well, this is what this movie is about, that is, the  main message it seems to send! That is one of the only two things that I don’t like about this movie! This ‘gay is only a phase’ thing really rubbed me the wrong way! Worse still they even turned it into a curse. A curse that affects only girls because there are no gay men in Japan apparently, oops, I meant gay boys since grown-ups can’t be gay having outgrown such nonsense. I am totally tasting metal in my mouth right now!

The other is that they tried so hard to be intelligent by mixing in human elements into what is supposed to be a supernatural/horror movie! If any one of you watched those promotional videos I posted a while back while this movie was in cinemas, Ayami was saying something about her character Aya being the next Sadako which really brought my hopes up even higher about this movie seeing as I am a great horror fan. So you can imagine my disappointment when in the movie, apparently the Aya ghost was not the one causing all the deaths but rather humans! Okay, that really pissed me off! You can’t compete with Sadako, Kuchisake Onna or any other legendary villains like that, nope! If they had made Ghost Aya the villain that she was supposed to be instead of trying to be wise bums, this would have been a 5 star horror and the birth of the next Gen villain but alas. Seriously, Michi did not even get to take a photo, not a single photo, with that famous camera of the Fatal Frame series we know and love! Not one!!! All the rage!

Other than those two facts, this movie was really great. Which isn’t saying much seeing as those two points I just touched upon are what make this movie’s gears move! You see, the main thread in this movie is that there is a curse that breaks lose when a girl kisses the photo of the girl she likes. Apparently this has been going on for generations in this school (There is a whole gallery of lovers from years past) and up until the current head sister’s school days, the curse was un-stoppable as in every graduating class there was always a couple the loved each other so much that instead of growing up and having to be separated, they would commit suicide in order to freeze their time together forever. The head sister was one of these girls and was in love too once. But when they went to commit suicide together with the girl she loved, the head nun cheated and did not fall with her lover. That apparently broke the curse!

But with Aya’s arrival, the curse began anew. Girls would fall for her to the point of them breaking out the curse all over again by kissing her photo, which we actually find out wasn’t her photo but more on that later. Aya who is also being affected by the curse by being bombarded with weird visions, decides to lock herself in her room for the whole last term. Also because she couldn’t handle the way her fellow students looked at her wherever she would go and as she said, did not understand the feeling of a girl loving another girl (to which Michi replies that she doesn’t even understand the feeling of loving a boy. I gave her 10 points for that BTW!).

And so the movie opens around this time, only a few days left to go before graduation, Aya is still locked up in her room, the girls are going crazy without their Aya, the curse is spreading and getting stronger. And in the process bodies begin to fall like sheep.

When Marnie Was There 思い出のマーニー

Help me!!!

I just lost my Studio Ghibli virginity and it has left me with a very odd feeling! Actually now that I think about it, though this movie wasn’t a part of those movies I said I was going to be posting about these coming days, I am adding Marnie to that list right now. This should tell you all you need to know about this movie before we even get started.

So, why now? Why am I only getting into Studio Ghibli movies after what feels like years since joining the Anime Community? Well, that is a very good question because Studio Ghibli was not for me so why did I decide to jump over-board this time? Well it might have to do with the fact that I was reeled in by the trailer, not to mention /u/ wouldn’t shut up about this during those trailer days so I figured I might as well add it to my wishlist.

Well, I am still debating whether that was a wise decision or not! But I will probably have made up my mind by the time I finish writing this post. And with that said, let’s get this thing rolling…

Wonderful World End ワンダフルワールドエンド

SURPRISE!

Ha! Didn’t see that coming now did you! Did you?!! You couldn’t have, after all neither could I! Seriously I wasn’t expecting this movie to come out on DVD until like, Autumn but there I was, getting an alert in my Yahoo App telling me that this movie is already available to purchase! I was like pinching myself trying to prove that I wasn’t dreaming or something while at the same time I was offering up my Card to be sacrificed!

Well, since you are reading this, that means that this is true! This movie exists, after being shown in cinemas like, this Jan, or was that Feb, either way it was this year which means that the possibility of getting DVDs this early shouldn’t be at all possible but here we are! Then again, this might be because it was easy putting this on DVD seeing as it is a completely uncut version of those awesome PVs!

I had a feeling that would be the case but I did not believe it! Well believe you me dear Readers, that is the case! This movie is like the complete PV uncut! It has all the rawness of those PVs and even some more! Just imagine the craziness of PVs turned into a movie and you will know what this movie’s vibe is like! Can’t get it, well let me break it to you, it is crazy!

This movie, its very existence showed me that miracles do happen! I mean we see MV based on movies all the time but they always come after the movies, not this one! This time the movie came after the PVs due to high demand and many wishes, of which one was mine and let me tell you now I am so very happy to have gotten my wish granted! Why not? After all, how many of you get to say your wishes were granted?!! How could I not be happy!!!

As I mentioned during my post on Jan 1st (yes, I have no life! blogging on New Years Day, HA! HA!) and also as I just mentioned now, the characters from the PV reprise their roles because like I said, the movie happened because of the PVs so making the movie without the PV characters would be a complete waste of time! And so the same characters returned, with some new ones that we did not get to see in the PV but are necessary to the story and are welcome! That being said, the ones we are most interested in are of course these two…

Though this movie will lose you if you try to even think any deeper about it, this is the movie with the BEST END, actually the only one with a GOOD END of all the movies I am going to be blogging about in the coming days! And so I am very thankful for it just for that fact alone! You should know how hard a GOOD END movie when it comes to yuri is to find! You would think that in the current world where people are more tolerable of differences that movies would try to support this good turn but nooo! Instead they wish to keep of this doom of fear cloud that instead of making people come out and feel more confident in themselves they are instead forced to hide deeper within themselves for the dread these movies promises them is to come!

Yes I know this is true, I have seen it, experienced it too but aren’t movies supposed to be our light? Aren’t they supposed to make us happy even if it is a delusion? Movies are supposed to be our fairy tales but for some reason even in movies different people are subjected to the cruelty of reality! Why won’t you make more GOOD END yuri movies Za Warudo!!!??

Okay, forget this. I am so ruining my mood. Let’s get this movie started, shall we?

Prepare for FEELS and make it treble, for my latest purchase that I’m about to discuss is nothing but FEELS!

First of all, in case anyone doesn’t know, H!O is a place you wanna visit both after, or before reading this post. Most probably should do it before reading because that way you won’t be spoiled. But I know I am not the only one who sometimes can’t contain myself and go out looking for trouble (spoilers) so in that case, go to H!O after reading this. Who knows, you might change your mind watching the movies yourself after reading my thoughts on them.

First of all, I am going to talk about Houkago Lost, then Shushinki Gokko will follow! But even as I just said that, I feel like I should say this about Shushinki Gokko right now. Well, I’m not sure how many of you remember me saying that I had a bad feeling about this movie when I posted about that spin off but I did say it. I knew there had to be a catch in getting that goodness of a spin off! I mean come on, how many movies get that kind of spin offs? I just felt that something was wrong. I had glimpsed of it from the trailers and after having watched the movie, well, let me just say that I hate it when my yuri-sense tingles. It is never wrong!

But that is for another day. Today is Houkago Lost day. But even so, no HAPPY END here. Yeah, sorry to dump this on you even before we start on the damn movie but really, after all this time, unless I have really new members in the community, our hearts should be already hardened when it comes to Yuri ENDINGS. In other words, I am pretty sure none of you are already throwing the towel. Just because the ending isn’t what we want, doesn’t mean the journey there isn’t worth enjoying, and by the jolly, is it ever!

As I mentioned during the trailer post, this movie – Houkago Lost, deals with three stories. They are independent of each other as the only thing they have in common is that bridge where Suuchan’s character drew the one-winged Angel! All characters from the three stories have been to this place under the bridge. Other than that, nothing else in common whatsoever.

Houkago Lost 放課後ロスト

The first part titled ‘Little Trip’, stars the lovely Miki Honoka as Yuki, a girl who accidentally falls for her class’s Rep Ayako (played by Gravure Idol Takashima Kaho).

The second part titled ‘Rakugaki Uwagai’, and sadly the less interesting and if I am truthful, didn’t pay a lot of attention to because it is irrelevant (read not yuri!), stars our own Suuchan, Sato Sumire but again as I said, no yuri here. Good thing though is that she…Ah there I go again already jumping ahead of myself. Sumire plays an art student named Satomi and…um…that’s all for now.

The 3rd and final act ‘Harmonic’ is thankfully back to yuri, or more of heavy subtext but since there is a kiss let’s scratch the subtext off, shall we? This part stars actresses Matsuoka Mayu who plays Rika, a girl that befriends a loner that decided to distance herself from others because she is to transfer out in a week and thus sees no reason to build attachments. Her name is Kuroi and she is played by actress Koizumi Aoi.

It’s the first act |Little Trip| that I am going to talk extensively about but before I proceed let me just shout out one thing –

“JAPAN!!! Y U BEING MEAN TO HONOKA-CHAN!!??”
