And to you too my lovely Readers, today especially to Anon Korean, who just gave me possibly, the greatest news for the next couple of months! And that is…

There’s gonna be a Blu-Ray and it is over 3hrs long!

Dear Readers, my life’s mission is complete! I have read a couple of home-base reviews (via google translate) and those under 8/10 think the movie is worth awards…They gave it a 7 or less yet think it is still worth awards! Other casual viewers were 10/10 – 8. Let me know of more about this dear Anon Korean but it is safe to say that Mr Park Chan-Wook might just have done the book justice!

The words justice in the context of adaptation and Fingersmith should not be uttered within the same space and yet, here I am!

Over 3 hours of Blu-Ray (Hopefully 4K) Fingersmith goodness! Please slap me and wake me up from this too-good-to-be-true dream! If I remember correctly the theatrical cut is 2h45m meaning there is gonna be 18 minutes of extra cream and strawberry goodness on top of that already heavenly delicious cake!

Someone please freeze me and wake me up when this Blu-Ray is out! Dear Mr Freeze, if you can hear me, I volunteer to be used in your experiments to save your wife!

Oh Lord, my shelf is going to be so precious in the near future with all these great movies on it. Now if Taiwan would release a re-mastered version of Spider Lilies in Blu-Ray, I would sacrifice the rest of my life to do the Lord’s work, for I don’t need no-thing more in this world!

I hope they use these images for the DVD/Blu-Ray covers. They totally remind me of the covers for the Taiwanese version of ‘Painter of the Wind’ TV series Box set which looked something like this…

Untitled-1

Once again thank you very much Anonymous Korean. Please do share more info in the future about this movie (Like where Blu-rays are listed or like where Blu-rays are listed, or like where the Blu-rays are listed!).

Good night dear Readers, but before I leave, some pics…

[Ahgassi] So, The Movie Opened 01/06 At Home

Holy Shi- Are those Lilies!!?

fullsizephoto728439 fullsizephoto728440

And apparently, it’s the 2nd biggest ‘adult’ opening which, while at first you might think it is a given with Park Chan-Wook as the director, let’s not forget that this is a gay movie first and foremost. That changes the conversation. But anyway, leaving numbers on the side, I am writing about this to share a nice little interview with Kim Min-Hee I found. Excerpt…

Q: When do you think Hideko opened up to Sook-hee?

I think she would’ve thought, ‘she’s strange’ from the beginning. You can’t justify the start of a human’s feelings to a moment. It’s true in reality too. Feelings build up to become love in the end and I think that’s what happened to Hideko.

Original Source –> HERE. Translated hancinema Source –> HERE.

A little explanation to those that might be wondering…Hideko is Maud’s character in this movie (played by Kim Min-Hee) and Sook-hee, well, self-explanatory that is Suky Tawdry, AKA Susan Trinder MKA Sue (played by Kim Tae-Ri) – the central main character in Fingersmith!

BUT anyway, how about that answer though >.< And if we are going by the book, their fate was not set from their first meeting, it was set just before their birth! Their love was born with them. Truly, the greatest love story as far as I am concerned!

Man, I love this movie so damn much before I have even watched it! I swear if I was aware of this movie a little earlier, I would be in Korea right now, just to see this movie! wouldn’t even care that I could not understand a word, well, except Ahgassi!!

Please Ireland, please be awesome and be one of the 172 countries (A record at Cannes for a Korean movie by the way) that bought the rights to show this movie in their cinemas! Otherwise I am going to have to fly somewhere just to see it. France is October, UK is probably a bit earlier, if they are showing it.

Okay, that is a lot of IFs. Time to cut down on some and do some digging as to which countries are showing this. Then it’s off to Holiday planning! have you ever planned a holiday around a movie? Well I have, twice this year! This is the second. The first is obvious! Speaking of the obvious, dat ultimate cut trailer tho >.<

…Waiting for This Movie!

So, everything, it seems, couldn’t go any better this year. After my cries out for help last time, someone was nice enough to translate the relevant points from that interview. In addition, there is tonnes of videos from Cannes a few days ago, where we get some more lovely scenes of our two ladies, Kim Min-Hee and Kim Tae-Ri.

Looks like the French title is the the exact translation of the Korean one (Why can’t everyone else follow this?). But isn’t it interesting that all titles are about the ladies? For a movie that was seemingly supposed to focus on the male characters more, it still stayed with the important things. The Korean and French titles are about the Lady (Maud) while the English titles are about the Handmaid (Sue). To go with the English title that supports the original story showing Sue as the main character or stay canon as the director intended and go with the Korean?

Decision, decisions…

Whatever the case may be, the verdict is still the same – I want this movie, now! To hell with that ‘Good Things Come To Those Who Wait’ babble! And if we are taking France as the basis, since they will be getting Ahgassi (Mademoiselle – in French) in their theatres in August, if they are showing it in the UK, it will be around the same time? Meaning we can expect a DVD sometime in Jan/Feb next year?

The more I think about the Bluray release dates the more I get depressed so let’s move on…

[Ahgassi] The Reviews From Cannes Are In!!!

“Ultimately, “The Handmaiden” works as a form of historical fantasy in which love conquers all, but not in the ways one might expect.”
– Eric Kohn (IndieWire)
“What’s so fascinating is how unsatisfying and often grotesque male sexuality is in comparison to the eroticism and warmth generated by the women of the film. The Count, played by The Chaser’s Ha Jung-woo, is merely an annoyance to the pair, a repugnant fly on their windshield. While the uncle, who involves his niece in perverted “readings” for a male audience, is a sadistic fool indulging in pornography over reality. ”
– Benjamin Lee (The Guardian)
“In particular, the camera lingers on Sookee’s face, which registers every change of heart. Both of the lead actresses are incredibly beautiful, in very different ways. Newcomer Kim Tae-ri is all rough around the edges innocence, while Kim Min-hee exudes a sadness and sophistication. When they come together, they are a quite a couple.”
– Jo-Ann Titmarsh (HeyUGuys)
“Chan-Wook’s latest is wonderfully acted, and the two actresses playing Lady Hideka (Kim Min-Hee) and Sookee (Kim Tae-ri), so essential to it all coming together, are truly breathtaking; their chemistry so perfect, and their sexual intensity electric.”
– Paul Heath (The Hollywood News)
“A sharp tooth is smoothed down so it won’t cut the flesh of her mouth in a scene of remarkable intimacy.”
– John Bleasdale (CineVine)

happy tears

I fuckin knew it! That tooth scene is gonna be the death of me! And from what I hear there is not one (or two) but three sex scenes! Good Lord Almighty!

Well, I hope you are happy tiduf and Llewella, you just created a Green Eyed Monster in me, very thanks to letting me know that there are people who have already seen this movie!

A movie that before I have even watched, has already earned the title of my favourite movie of all time! That’s right you all dear Readers, who were wondering what my favourite movies were. This is My No.1. Spider Lilies, A Girl at My Door, The Only Two Girls On Earth, and Brulee, in no –particular order, bring the count to Top 5. From there things get difficult! But there you have it!

And in case you haven’t gotten it yet, to those that were worried about RFR in this movie, don’t be! They sure changed a few things but only in the chapters where the males had more focus. Maud’s chapter was changed a bit to compensate for the extra Uncle shenanigans as was it and the third act with RFR.

Sue’s 1st Act was changed a bit to to suit the change from England to 1930s Korea. And from what I heard the origins were changed but really, that is okay as far as I am concerned. This isn’t a TV show, and a story like Fingersmith, just like a few reviews seemed to think, can’t be done in  single movie. Even as this movie is almost 3 hours long from what I hear, most feel it was rushed and that was un-avoidable. Korea hasn’t yet started the multi-part movie thing like Japan fell prey to no thanks to Hollywood so we could only do with one movie.

But really, from the reviews, it seems like Mr Park pulled it off!

I really cannot wait for this movie! If it comes out on 4K Blurays, I am frikkin getting the necessary equipment, no matter the cost! This is a movie I must have. Depending on the actual produce, I might add this to the list of things to be buried alongside me!

Anyway, some more pics after the jump…
