Hello everyone, happy dragon times we live in (RIP Rhaenys, down with the green Cunts).
Anyway today, we are returning to the wild lands of Aussie with an Australian series SWIFT STREET! It is a small thing, with a tight script about a teen who must deal with her father’s bullshit when he is caught up in debt after debt and she is the one who must always produce a way to pay them off!
Yes, it is one of those series that some call boring or depressing but what we, who have lived, know them as real life! SWIFT STREET is a bit tame compared to many out there, but really, who cares, we are not here for that, right?
Great news, one of our girls in the lead and the circumstances are within bubble, in that Elsie, the main girl, already has a boyfriend when we meet at the start of the series and the confusions that she has during the show, is of her gayness and not the straight kind. She has tried the tulips but found out that she is more into lilies.
This of course I loved a lot because I prefer when the girl has tried out the guys so that when she does get with a girl, there is no second guessing. This is better still when the guy in question is not a dick but a good guy, which is the case here too.
Not just the guy but the female interest is also very well mannered, despite having had a difficult childhood. II guess nurture is not the end-all be-all in terms of behaviour.
Our other girl is Aisha, a delinquent gone soft, now working as a flower shop assistant, she is a bit of a softy, not pushy or short-fused like one would expect from similar character traits, hey, never judge the book by the cover, she flirts every moment she gets but in this cute way, but she is not pushy at all. She gives Elsie the space and the time that she needs.
There is a moment where she does lose it a bit, but she was under too much pressure after her guardian figure that changed her life got mugged and killed but it was that one time and Elsie did not hold it against her because she had demanded too much patience from Aisha already so she might as well give her that one release.
Their relationship does show that sometimes you must keep on fighting the good fight and you will be rewarded, that is, if you do not over-step and dance at the same rhythm as your crush. Elsie did enjoy Aisha’s flirting because they were endearing.
One unique thing that this couple did was the confession.
Aisha was the one in love with Elsie, like, so obvious, but she was not the one who confessed! It was Elsie that confessed. That is not unusual but the way that Elsie confessed, using her acceptance as the confession, I do not know, I have never seen it done that way and I was impressed.
This confession happened right at the end of the series, it was Elsie’s and thus, the series’ last dialogue and interaction in the show. Aisha was ready to move on from this place to a whole different country all together because she did not have anything to live for.
Elsie was still unclear about her feelings by this moment and still had innuendos with her ex-boyfriend and really, Aisha, no matter how kind she is, she is still human. One can wait for so long before they move on, especially after a tragedy when priorities shift.
Thankfully, where other series would leave us on such a sour note, SWIFT STREET clears the air when Elsie comes back in time to the shop before Aisha leaves to confess her feelings and give Aisha a reason to stay, which she does. Again, some series would have Aisha leave anyway but not this one!
The times, they are changing!
As I mentioned, this series is 8 episodes long, but it feels short. Shorter still because the romance does not take centre stage and really, why should it? There are more important issues to tackle, and I feel that if no emphasis is put on relationships, they feel real, you know, they are there feeling natural just like real life.
I for one I am happy; we have the main character, and their ending is a happy one so what is there to be miserable about? It’s not like we are starved on content, not this year for sure! There is like, 5 on-going projects right now, sure they are mostly streaming but are we going to be that picky?
Speaking of, #DreamGL is the shit! Fay, the actor playing Wan, is my absolute favourite in a long time! She can top me whenever she wants! She literally has no equal! Well, Bmine, acting in the upcoming UNLOCK YOUR LOVE, comes close and could be a contender but her hotness seems exclusive to in universe. Fay on the other hand, whew wee!!! Every time I see a picture of her on my timeline I can’t help but gape!
Girl is super Handsome!!!!
I best stop here before I turn this into a Fay fawn fun fiction!
And with that I bid thee Fay-well!
I’m done, I swear!
Ja!
