So, there I was doing my rounds of what I like to call ‘digging the internet for gold’ when I stumbled upon a certain Korean movie titled ‘The Treacherous’. Being desperate as I haven’t had any new yuri titles lately to watch, I grabbed it because the poster had two ladies (and a man) on it. Sure the first thing anyone would think of, what I thought of, was that this was definitely a harem. But then I thought of the title and I was like, maybe there is a twist in there somewhere! So I get it.

I was not ready!

I am going to say this right now – This movie is the weirdest Korean movie I have ever seen!

I have of course seen movies from Korea that were the other kind of weird. But this, this is the sexual weird kind of weird that I only know and expect from hard-core Japanese pron! I wasn’t expecting this from Korea! Seriously, I thought they were much reserved that this! I haven’t seen this level of scandalousness in their movies before.

There were no subs so I understood close to nothing in regards to the story but from what I saw, the movie was about a certain kingdom and its deranged ruler who collected girls all over the lands and used them to do some weird things! Actually it was more about art, he would draw art of them but they were always doing weird things and he was into some dark sexual stuff!

I can go as far as saying that he is the worst (as in best) villain of the year! But for some un-godly reason he actually survived the damn movie! How the fuck was that even possible!? He should have been dead and with the worst kind of death a human could ever have! I guess it just goes to show how nature really favors the fittest!

So dear Readers, I just watched the Frozen Fever short movie!

Mein Gott! What did I just watch?! This can’t be real! There is no way this is real! Disney did not so make this! I refuse to believe it! This is not something that the real deal Disney could have released! No way! This is stuff for fan Fiction!

That’s right, I get it now! This was some fan made short that Disney thought was good enough to show to the masses! It makes sense to release it as a part of a different movie. That makes everything clear! I am so glad I did not see this in the cinema because I can’t comprehend the awkward atmosphere there as people watched this trying very hard not to see all the Elsanna hitting them in their faces 7-D style! Sure the reason I didn’t go to the cinema at the time was because I wouldn’t have been caught dead watching a purely fantastical romance movie like Cinderella but still…

Seriously people, what is this?! I had to turn off the subs because everything was just so gay especially when you paid attention to the lyrics as Elsa guided Anna along the red string…THE RED frikkin STRING people! They did the…the string…they….and the lyrics and the cake and the gifts and the…

Oh! My! God!

Even the damn title! ‘Frozen Fever’?! You betcha butt it’s the frikkin Frozen Fever! And you just went and increased the mortality rate with this short release that couldn’t have screamed ‘Elsanna’ any louder even if it tried to. Forget the incoming sequel, unless Anna refuses to marry K when he proposes, and those two sleep in the same bed (not like that you perv), there is no way they can make Elsanna anymore solid than this short movie!

Seven minutes. More like 7min of eternity! It took me close to an hour to finally stop watching that video and move onto the next in the queue! I finally understand all the hype! The exchanges between Elsa and Anna, the touches, the looks, the dialogue, every damn thing were stuff of fiction! I don’t even…

Mizu no Naka no Dendouritsu has just earned AKB 1600yen! I know it doesn’t sound a lot compared to what the actual sales will be but as every business student knows, even a cent is precious!

Yes, I am admitting it! I was not going to buy this single before watching this short PV for the Next Girls’ song! Now don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I don’t like Halloween Night as a song and PV. It’s not that I don’t like the coupling ‘Ippome Ondo’ song and PV either. I love them both. I love them as just another AKB single.

I don’t like them as Senbatsu songs and PV!

Seriously please tell me what is so attractive about Halloween Night as a Senbatsu PV/song?! Nothing! If they replaced the senbatsu with any other girls it would be absolutely the same thing! Whatever happened to the PVs of old where a PV made members jealous of the Senbatsu members?! In the old PVs you had this feeling that anyone lower would look at those PVs and wish they were in those top spots! You would watch a PV as a fan and feel proud that your girl was so high in Senbatsu because the PVs were part of the reward to them. Those PVs were also more effortful and did a great job of showing the power of Senbatsu members, especially the top!

What did you get from watching Halloween Night in regards to Senbatsu, please tell me, I am all ears! As for myself, well, this rant should tell you all you need to know! For me this A-side was not worth of a Senbatsu song! Actually I am pretty much calmed down now but the first time I saw this I was so disappointed and angry you have no idea!

Sure the costumes were nice even if Halloween themes in the middle of summer is a crap idea but I loved them never the less. Sure this would have done better as the Janken single or pre-Janken! Other than being at the front, there was no real reward for Sashiko for winning Senbatsu with nearly 10% of the total votes! Yes, that is the reward in the first place but tell me if that was all you got from the Acchan/Yuko singles/PVs!!

I was so under-whelmed that even Yukirin going up in ranks was not going to get me to buy this after watching that Halloween Night PV! Sure there was some MayukiSashi moments but they were doing nothing but standing next to each other. Such disappointment! But then yesterday AKS goes and releases the previews for the PVs for the ‘Under Girls’, Next Girls’, ‘Future Girls’ and ‘Upcoming Girls’. It is among these whose PV sold me and urged me to buy this single! That is of course Next Girls’ Mizu no Naka no Dendouritsu! That PV just re-ignited by AKB flame!

Gion Bayashi [J-Movie]

Continuing onto the oldies of Japan that I said I would be discussing. First we had a look back to 1985 with ‘Taifu Club’. We then went a bit back into time 13 years earlier (1972) with ‘Tabi no Omosa’. I found yet another which is really old, well, by our standard that is.

It is ‘Gion Bayashi’ – A 1953 drama movie about a girl who wishes to be a Maiko/Geisha after her mother’s passing and moves to an old acquaintance of her mother’s to learn the ways of a Maiko. The film was directed by Kenji Mizoguchi and the story was set in post-war Japan – Not the best of times. The movie was old school black and white but the version I watched was touched up a bit so it was very watchable.

The reason I wanted to talk about these movies was to show how even back then yuri was already a thing. But while in the other two movies the scenes were mature, in this movie we got the yuri most of us are used to that isn’t in a pron title. It was so light and could easily be dismissed which is why this won’t be the typical movie post. It is going to be very short (serious this time) because I am only going to explain this one scene. Actually this movie is one that is worth the title of this blog. You would not see it unless you were looking for it which is why the yuri-goggles are needed for this one.

To tell the truth I wasn’t expecting anything! I went in looking for some nice family bonds and that was all but I instead got something much more. It was subtle but when it clicked my emotions went into over-drive. With all the talk of Geisha not being allowed to fall in love with their clients but there being some kind of rule of having a patron that was like their husband even though they weren’t married, with the men being in love with the main girls too made yuri almost impossible. And so I wasn’t expecting it.

Tabi no Omosa 旅の重さ

This movie it dedicated to those who were like – Reina said she loves Taki-sensei? Dropped! – when watching a certain episode of Hibike Euphonium, like a person could only love just one person since the day they were born till their death or something.

‘Tabi no Omosa’, terribly translated as always into English as ‘The Journey to Solitude’ – I hereby swear to give up on the people in charge of these translations because if I continue minding this, I will develop a case of brain cancer soon. Those two titles are so different in meaning the weight behind them! Why do they even do this? It’s not like they are lines that need to sound in flow when spoken like they do in dubs! So this is the last time you will see me posting the English titles let alone mentioning them!

‘Tabi no Omosa’ is yet another oldie, in fact over 11 years older than the other movie I posted about yesterday – Taifu Club. This is the movie I was talking about in that post. Tabi no Omosa is a 1972 drama directed by Saitou Koichi about a 16 year old girl that leaves home to go on a pilgrimage around the Island she lived on ‘Shikoku’.

Interesting to know that one of my favourite Japanese movie companies was named after a real Island.

Oh yeah, before we commence I want to point out that if you are only into yuri you might not like this movie much because Makiko our main character ends up falling for an older man and lives with him by the end of the movie. There are other points that will make the pain not worth it keeping this one. On the other hand if you enjoy good cinema, which I find most of the old Japanese movies are, you will definitely be keeping this one. Also the plot of the movie kind of gives it away but the yuri is a moment in Makiko’s life, which was expected seeing as she was on a journey. She and Masako did not stay together because even though Makiko had been pulled in by the stage life of the troupe, the veil had been lifted when she saw them in their daily lives and it was a life much different from hers. Still if she had stayed I am sure she would have changed the people around her but she did not and knowing that, this is going to be a very brief post. So then let’s get rolling.
