두레소리Duresori
It is officially known to me now after all this time that, I am indeed…Korea’s ‘B’! That’s right, I cried like the ‘B’ I am at 4 in the morning while watching this movie because…Korea! It wasn’t even sad, or that dramatic like how usual Korea movies are like that reduce grown adults to their weeping knees!
No, it was the music! Yes, that’s right, Korean just reduced me to tears with mere lyrics and the power of voice! I am not even trying to comprehend it! I mean the movie in and its self would come off as boring to the general public but one just can’t help but hang in there for a chance to hear these lovely girls and boys sing!
Glee wishes they were this good!
In all seriousness, the music in this movie was just so out there. Forget not understanding a lick of Korean and subtitles aren’t really that much help when it comes to music really but I felt like I was a bornified Korean while listening to them sing! The music just hit me right in the heart leaving me bare to its jagged daggers!
Sweet pain! Especially that last performance…which thankfully is up on YT
Oh God, here I go again!
Now for the yuri. It was quite strange with this one! You know when you see two people who are so lovey dovey with each other that you think if only they took that extra step they would be lovers? Only they don’t? Well, it’s these two. They were like lovers who weren’t lovers! As little sense as that makes, it is true. It is these two that provide the break-up/patch-up final drama, even as weak as it was (no tears? ‘B’ please!)
That ‘date’ scene was just so out there! I was literally screaming for them to just up and kiss already darn it! And that wasn’t all. There was this classroom scene too…
But of course, me being me, I went and fell in lust with a different ship! A ship that did not sail but had so much potential which was completely wasted…
I mean, come on! Their very first meeting was a heroic scene with Eun being saved from the bullies! Meetings never get better than that! Then Fate through in a few extra cents by introducing Eun to the Choir, who has the talents they were all missing! Even going an extra mile, they get drunk and make eyes at each other but do the Directors make anything out of this blatant hinting!
NOPE!
I guess now I know why that last performance made me cry knowing that things would end like that! Oh well, the music performances totally make up for all the negatives though, no matter how small they are.
If anyone knows of where I can find this kind of, what I believe to be traditional Korean music, please do share. My heart wants more of this lovely magic of song!
