What a twist!
| Charlene Choi | Fan Bing Bing |
Can you believe a minute or two scene in a two hour long movie could make up for all the crap that was the rest of the movie? Well, this scene did that for me!
The movie is all kinds of all over the place so I won’t even try to explain it but I will talk about the girls since it is necessary.
Fan is some kind of galactic Princess who is hibernating/sleeping/hiding out on earth in some kind of cocoon that she never comes out of until shit hits the fan (so to speak).
Choi finds her cocoon and she takes it upon herself to guard it like it was her life’s treasure and the two probably spend many years in their own little world until that damned priest pops up, with chaos in his wake too.
Any way, Princess Fan is so beautiful that the darkness is even scared of her while Choi ion the other hand, is as beautiful as Predator’s un-masked face…to Arnold!
Later on, the priest and Fan have a conversation where he asks her if she has ever been in love. She says she has and the bottom line is that it was love at first sight! We of course first think she is talking about the priest since he too stumbled upon her cocoon and sneaked a look inside the way the Fan describes those eyes she fell in love with, who would ever think it was the Predator!
So I frown and frown for the rest of the movie until all the chaos is settled (with the help of Choi who is actually a real beauty on par with Fan and in fact they are from the same world it was just that some kind of curse had been put on Choi when she was left on earth as a child) and it’s time to head on home…for the Princess.
So I guess the Princess did see the real beauty of Choi from the beginning while the others, and us, saw the beauty of Predator.
Any way, the Princess and Choi are saying goodbye and when Choi offers a hand (for s shake) the Princess takes her into a heartfelt hug instead. Choi is le surprise of course and though I know not how but she understands the Princess’s feelings and we are shown that the one she was talking about, that first fated encounter that resulted in love at first sight, was actually Choi!
Queue le gasp!
So that was what she was talking about? Indeed, it a true Beauty and the Best love story. Too bad though that their love was realised to late after the priest had his paws all over Choi’s heart!
Arg!
Damn it China, why no best ends with you? You have all the coolest characters and then you tease us with the yuri but then you take it all away in one go!
Oh well, it’s because of that, that I shall never get tired of yuri. There is so little of it that there is no chance of growing tired of it from the over-whelming quantity of it.
Sigh
Any way, about the movie, I don’t recommend it as a yuri movie so watch in at your own risk. I too went in for the action and Fantasy and I wasn’t let down in that department though the over-laying romantic crap of it was kind of a pain in the butt!
But if you’re willing to suffer for a little bit of happiness, then go ahead…
Still, though it was not a happy end, I am wondering what would have happened had the Princess stayed after her confession (well kinda). Choi seemed a little disappoint when Fan left. Hmm…Perhaps later on things might have changed, especially maybe when the Princess returns to check up on Choi only for their feelings to surface, queue scandal, then finally getting together after all the angsty.
Arg, where is Kirika when you need her….
