Starring lovely, lovely ex-Momoclo Hayami Akari and H!P’s Kikawa Yuu! And as you can see above they were really close in this lovely movie about cheerleading.

I  was very happy to see that Akarin’s sense of humour was very well appreciated in that they let her lead and narrate the movie to us. Needless to say that fact made watching this that much worth-while, other than the simple reason of hers and Yuu’s looks, that is.

GAL Basara

Gal Basara (Gal Basara: Sengoku Jidai wa Kengai Desu in full) is an SKE48 movie that I knew absolutely nothing about! You’d think that Yuria-peace being at the centre of it (and to an extend Ogiso) I would have already heard of it even before it aired but noooooo! I have to see it way after the DVDs are out!

Even worse is that Mariko-sama herself is in this movie so is Matsui Sakiko and half of the whole fuckkin SKE48 but did I know about this movie?!

Kawaii~

Akarin plays Asami, our lovely prota along Yuu’s Kanna. Along with 9 other club presidents, the 11 girls decide to enter the cheerleading competition to win the prize money (which becomes necessary) to repair the –principal’s statue that got broken.

Asami had done cheer-leading since she was young thanks to her sister who has won several trophies for the school and is very thought of (to the point of Kanna living under her shadow) so she is promoted to be the captain but Kanna doesn’t want to do it and the pressure of keeping up with her sister is getting to her which makes her quite a mess.

 

 

 
 

Asami has been friends with Kanna since elementary and she has always looked up to her to the point that now the feelings are passed the friendship zone! This leads to many funny thoughts of Kanna in Asami’s mind which are quite open to us seeing as we get to hear her thoughts and boy are they delicious! The way she gets jealousy easily when another friend so easily gets invited to Kanna’s place yet she has never been (so she invites herself along) or the way she rejoices in her mind when she says some cool lines to bring Kanna’s spirits up.

It was very cute seeing them and hearing Asami’s thoughts and while we didn’t get a resolution to them and while Asami didn’t out right confess her feelings to Kanna, me thinks Kanna knew how Asami felt about her and if that were the case, then Kanna’s “Oh Asami-chan, I love you” that was followed by a kiss on the cheek, in Asami’s bedroom, with a bed they shared!, leaves me with pleasant delusions!

It’s been great to have to see Akarin again back in action as well and I am glad to see that she is doing well outside of Momoclo, not that I had any doubts, seriously, she was always on the ball and seeing her one could not help but think of those people you just know are made for success!

So yeah, do watch it whenever you get the chance, ne.

Okay, Gal Basara was a very tricky one!

And I don’t mean the sudden cuts that you just don’t know if it’s in the distant past, past or present. No I mean the fact that I have no idea as to Nao’s fate by the end of the movie.

As to who Nao is, that is Yuria-peace who was best friend with Yu (Taketomi Seika – the boyish one) and the lead Asami (Arimura Kasumi). Seems like Nao was the glue that held that friendship together and if any feelings were involved, it would have to be Asami->Nao<-Yuu with Nao seeming to lean more towards Asami’s side. At least that’s what all the evidence is pointing at.

Any way, the thick of things is that Asami, Yu and a few other classmates get transported back in time during Oda Nobunaga’s rule while on a historical tour during which the two learn more about life and face things that they were running away from (which might include Nao).

From what we had seen, in what looks like flashbacks, Nao was sick but she had a dream of becoming a professional dancer. One day she says that she is going overseas for better education and Asami doesn’t take that very well. The two separate on bad terms and it is not clear if they ever got passed that until Yu and Asami receive news while goofing off in class (thanks to messenger Sakiko) that Nao has been hospitalised.

There, Nao gives her bracelet of friendship/bonds to aAsami and it seemed to me like a right of passage or something along those lines as if she is leaving all her hopes and dreams to Asami. The way I saw it was like Nao confessing and giving her feelings (really strong feelings) to Asami and after that, we never see Nao again!

They didn’t show them visiting her grave if she had died by the end and they had time, nor did they show us Yu or Asami giving Nao a call were she alive and overseas, and they had time to shoe us them eating ice-cream afterwards so time for an international call sure would have been available or a visit to the grave.

Where the fuck was all that?! What the heck happened to Nao in the end?!!!

It didn’t help matters any that while in the past, Yu and Asami had a fight and Yu mentions something about Asami running away from Nao (‘s feelings) so I was hoping for her to finally face-up when they return to their own time but did we get to see any more of Nao?

And then they have the frikkin guts to throw in some sudden hetero-shite in the end that had no substance whatsoever in the passed 1h and 50min. I swear to God I almost smashed my monitor!

Like, WTF was that all about?! 1h and 50min of GAy subtext and then BAM! Suddenly they are straight?!

Fac U!

I mean even Mayu (Ogiso Shiori) had the senpai-hots for Asami and she was a book-worm! That shows how gay everyone was…supposed to be anyway!

Well, I can just cut out those two or three minutes and keep the other hour and 5omins so I guess it’s okay!

But yeah, Yuri-peace and Ogiso were pretty good in this actually. I hope to see more of them in movies in the future,, and hopefully some Kumin too!
