Nobody would care if you’re gone. No one really needs you!
Yuu here. I haz ur number now, Ha! Ha!
Bitch, I don’t even remember loving you!
Oh snap!
Oh! My! God! This episode was glorious!
Being Mahou shoujo is suffering?
Please
First of all, let me raise and slap my bum in the haters’ faces. This episode was pure entertainment. Not realistic? Go back to your real lives if you want realistic. This is anime FCOL! Since when do we w3atch anime for realism? As for confusion – There is nothing to be confused about, at least plot wise. The only thing I am lost on is Mato’s feelings for Yomi. Unlike the OVA, her feelings here are not as clear and while she goes all mental when Yuu mentions Kotori Asobi, when she is with Yomi she doesn’t seem all that taken with her. Whatever happened to those walks home together? Why are they not spending quality lunch time together? Why in the deuce is BRS so violent?!
But let’s forget that and get back to this episode.
When I saw Chariot’s remains being dragged to the junkyard by Strength like that, I was immediately forced to harden my resolve in demanding consequences for BRS’s trend of be-heading people. And boy did I have my worries about that seen to this episode. Just as I hoped, BRS’s actions in the Ether world did have an effect on the real world counterparts of the victims.
First was Kohata-senpai. The Dude that caused her all that pain had the nerve to sneak up to her and apologise to try and un-do the damage but Dude, why didn’t you act at the time of incident? It’s too late to save spilled milk and I was very happy about the outcome. Anyways, straight romance in our dedicated lesbian anime? It was doomed to fail from the get go. So when dear Captain went all ‘I don’t have a bleedin’ idea what you’re on about Dude’, then finished him with fatality words of ‘I don’t even know you’, I was all out in space giving the awesomest thumbs up to God! BRS chopping the newly born Ether self of Kohata-senpai made her lose not only her memories but feelings for the Dude as well.
See? This is what I was hoping for. My anger at making a game of cutting off people’s heads has just been satiated. So thank you dear writers for not making this anime out to be a total fan boy’s work.
Speaking of Kohata-senpai, unless Yuu is a DD, she seems to have the hots for our dear little senpai and Captain of the basketball team. Just last week we thought she was aiming for Saya-sensei but perhaps that wasn’t the case at all. Could her problems be not about Mato but actually Kohata-senpai? If this is the case, BRS is gonna get it from Strength for her actions towards Kohata-senpai’s Ether self. Though before that, BRS has to go through the lovely and now very deadly Mistress of Death – Dead Master. But we are getting ahead of ourselves here.
Any way either Yuu has fallen for Kohata or she is that good in that she worries about everyone. I would have with this option after that scene where all the members were worrying over kohata-senpai but then later, Yuu tried to get the Captain’s attention in private. I jumped in my sit pumping a fist in the air with a heart-felt ‘YES’, only Yuu was either not heard or she was simply ignored by Kohata. I will give Kohata the benefit of a doubt and say that she just didn’t hear Yuu and really, she probably wanted to get away from all the fuss.
I don’t know what is to come of Kohata-senpai or better yet, Kagari because it sure looks like there is something terribly wrong with them, other than the memory loss I mean. Kohata’s eyes when she was speaking to the Dude were pretty chilling. I hope the animators were just being over-dramatic and wanted us to think that she was simply ‘empty’ inside instead of it being some kind of trick up their sleeves. One thing is for sure, Kohata is going to be interesting following in the last four, yep, only four episodes left – If nothing else to see if Yuu actually does feel that way for the small senpai.
Then came Kagari.
Her come-back didn’t disappoint, to say the least. She really was a great addition to the cast because the girl knows how to manipulate the story and put it on the right track. From the moment she stood in front of the class for introductions, everyone was already within her manipulative fingers. If this were that kind of anime, Kagari would be a Queen with lots and lots of sex slaves. It was great to see that her mean streak didn’t disappear when she released it on the unsuspecting classmates. Interestingly, the idiots get turned on by being abused by Kagari. Seriously, what’s wrong with this world?!
But that was just the icing on the cake. Kagari’s best work was and will always be Yomi. In this episode she went and up’d her game level to over 9000! Poor Yomi knew what the true meaning of suffering is this episode. I have to say that unlike most people, I wasn’t that surprised by the turn of events concerning Kagari and Yomi. I knew there had to be something that kept Yomi under Kagari’s hurtful clutches other than the insinuated love problems of Kagari. Surely just because someone loves you so much they break, it doesn’t make it your responsibility so why did Yomi keep up with that Kagari all these years?
We sure got our answer this episode.
And I have to say that the writers executed this episode very well. Forget the haters but I reached my utmost moment of ecstasy by the end of this episode. This had to be the best moment of ‘Birth of Something Awesome’ since that devil child birth in the last episode of Kannazuki no Miko. That was in 2004. I love these moments of awakening and the BGM that follows them. This moment though…This awakening though took the cake. But this is for later.
Back to Kagari, I have to say that though I want to kiss her for the final product, I want to slap her silly for the methods she used to get to it. I mean there she was looking all cute and very comfortable hiding behind Yomi’s back and clinging onto her arm then spending most of her time apparently worrying over Yomi and even going so far as to think of making Yomi cookies. Seeing all that, one has to squeal at the loveliness of it all and smile at the now pure love that Kagari feels for Yomi. She no longer curves hearts into her heart or lock her up in her room but instead she waits in the rain for hours just so she could give Yomi those cookies that she made on her own. I think they were her first ever attempt at cooking too (Wait, what about the macaroon? I guess they really were too good to be made by a middle scholar).
She even went looking for help to Mato. I guess even her feelings really are gone if she can’t even sense the animosity she had towards Mato before. I mean you see it in most other works where even though people have amnesia, sometimes their feelings overcome this barrier and Kagari’s hate towards Mato sure was deep. So I would think she would have felt her senses tingling whenever she saw Mato but nope! She goes as far as asking her for help in what she should do to thank Yomi for being there for her. If she knows that much, and seems to know how close Mato is to Yomi then what happened?
Ah but get this!
It was all a lie! Well, I felt betrayed and lied to but it was not like Kagari was to blame for that. It was I that had my delusions on where as Kagari had a whole different reason for all the trouble she went through. I also had my misgivings at her asking Mato for tips. She sure looked like a scheming little…well, now that I know the truth she does. In fact no one would have seen that one coming. So why did she suffer all this hell that love-sick girls go through for their loved ones?
Kagari filling Yomi’s brain with &%£
Jesus Christ!
And here is where the moment of awesome begins happening.
You know, I think now I understand the concept behind the Ether world. If it didn’t exist, would anyone who watched Yomi in this episode, especially this scene grasp the emotions as much as they did without us being shown what was going on in the Ether world?! I don’t know about anyone else but for me, I doubt I would have grasped just what Yomi was going through without seeing what was going on with Dead Master at that exact moment.
That’s right peeps, our Mistress is back, and this time, its SRS business! The whole sequence of her awakening was very superbly done and I am very happy to know that I was right way back when, when I knew she wasn’t at full power while still under Chariot’s charm. And how interesting is that – now that Kagari has left Yomi, Dead Master free to wreak havoc and raep BRS, or something. Good thing Chariot is already done for because I don’t want to think of what would have happened if Dead Master now came into contact with her. Though seeing as Dead Master is still wearing her wedding veil, maybe it wouldn’t be as simple as Turning Chariot into bones. Not that she has bones, isn’t she all metal and shi-
Anyway, the true Dead Master I know and love made her appearance after Yomi was broken in the real world. And so terribly broken she was, poor Yomi. I don’t know why people are laughing at her situation. Sure the animators went all out with her expression that combined reactions from almost all other anime from Evangelion (Shinji) to Code Geass (Nina) to even Madoka Magica (Mami-san)! But that doesn’t call for laughter. The feelings were real and if the reaction faces were available for use, all the better. That didn’t call for laughing at this episode. It was a serious episode and there are people are as dependant on others in the real world as Yomi is. I really felt for her and it wasn’t because she was Dead Master’s Real world counterpart.
Dead Master is here and we are back to the OVA main event, well, at least in the Ether world. I have to agree on one thing with some other fans in that I too was expecting for the OVA Dead Master to be the one that walks out of that Chain womb of Awesome! They should have done that and I am sure the ratings for this episode would be out of the roof but alas. Other that her weapon and two skull buddies, Dead Master was just the same bride as before. At least dump the veil girl, your waifu that made you wear that has just left you at the altar so why in the name of Rainbow Bird are you still wearing it! Also her aura didn’t change but that’s because Dead Master is always awesome face no matter when, even if she is under the whims of Chariot. All I am looking forward to now is that smirk of hers next episode when she plays with BRS’s body as if she was a sex toy!
Yomi sure was suffering this episode. I don’t even want to think of what went on inside that chest of hers. It was like everyone was playing with her heart this episode. Starting with Saya-sensei who lit the fire by telling Yomi that no one needs her that much. These simple words were enough to pave the spiralling path to oblivion for Yomi. Mato’s cluelessness didn’t help matters any either but the one who outdid herself in the breaking of Yomi was Kagari. Saya should get to know her. They would make a great combo. Actually, even though Saya-sensei went all ‘Just as planned’ at Yomi’s fall, it was Kagari who deserved the trophy. Even without trying she was breaking Yomi down, like that cooking club room incident when she walked in on Yomi yelling her false feelings about wanting Kagari to meet other people and how bothersome it was taking care of her by herself.
Wait, if those were lies, this means that Yomi really enjoyed all that time she spent with Kagari, even with all the unpleasantness that came with it. Though no that I think about it, Dead Master is like the Mistress of S&M originally so maybe Yomi actually enjoyed being tortured by Kagari! Damn, it all makes sense now.
Then there was the phone scene! OMG! I think the subbers got it wrong though. I am pretty sure Yomi went all out on her vocab and she said ‘What The Fuck Is this? WTF? WTF? WTF? WTF?’ as she attempted to beat the lies out of her phone with a pillow! I think we can all agree that while OVA Dead Master OWNs TV Dead Master, when it comes to Yomi, the tables are reverse with TV Yomi trampling over OVA Yomi. Oh Lord, I have thought of something…
What if OVA Dead master had TV Yomi to fuel her instead?!
The Awesomeness of that thought is staggering.
Wrapping this up, I have to say personally that this episode being mostly about Yomi (Not that any of the others aren’t) and the epic Awakening of Dead Master, you had to know that I was going to love this, and I do! Oh God do I love it! But that didn’t mean I was 100% satisfied with it. There were confusing things as well. I still don’t know Saya interest in Yomi. It seems to be quite above the rest and only perhaps equal to Mato’s, well she does have the two marked in her book. What could she be scheming?
Then there is Kagari. Was it really that necessary to saver her ties with Yomi? She could just as easily make other friends and still be with Yomi, even though Yomi doesn’t seem to know what she wants other than both Mato and Kagari for herself. I also can understand if Kagari disliked those groupy girls because they were not so nice. I hate them too but Kagari seemed taken with them so why did she look at them that last time with a look of disgust I wonder! Could it be that she really does still want Yomi? Though her last actions of the episode sure threw that possibility into the sewers.
How could you break Yomi so, and all with that freaky smile on your face too! It had better be because you were also lying and only doing it for Yomi’s sakes or else by the gods I will!
Better yet, it had better not be Mato’s fault all along and it was the idea of abandoning Yomi that Mato had whispered into Kagari’s ear that one time. OMG, if this is true I am going to raeg so hard. Not only is BRS causing trouble in the Ether world but Mato is up to no good either in the real world?! What the hell is this? Not even Lelouch was that evil! Is this going to be the first anime to make the heroine go over to the dark side? Well if Star Wars did it with Anakin…
Now I am really wishing Dead Master wipes the floor with BRS next episode. With all the juicing up they’ve done for her, she had better not lose to normal BRS because if she does…There will most definitely be hell to pay.
Once again, Dead Master’s Awakening was Awesome! And OMG, she has a throne made up of people?!! Totally WIN! And the way she walked out of that cocoon…Like a BOSS!
I will say it again that no other character has anything on Dead Master! They might be stronger but they lack that…class, that aura of perfection that Dead Master has! They may try but they will never be as half as Awesome as Dead Master is!
All Hail Dead Master!

If you were a Warhammer 20K fan, I have a strong feeling your favorite race would have been the Necron. DM TV looks like a Necron housewife to me. OVA DM definitely looks cooler but I like TV DM just as much. Both are equally badass as far as I’m concerned.
My reactions are based more on shock value than anything else.
Haters bashing this show based solely on lack of realism…”facepalm”…They forgot what form entertainment medium they’re watching, didn’t they? The most important rule while watching an anime is…realism…doesn’t…exist…in anime. Yomi’s being melodramatic…pfft…go watch frickin Evangelion, then come back to me and whine about melodrama. I complained about melodrama in Lagrange 7 already but hopefully they’ll take a break for a while with that.
What else…oh yeah. I was expecting your brain to hurt but your love of Dead Master’s greatness overcame any confusion you might have had over the transpiring events.
Of course as fellow nation members we will cheer for Yuu to earn Arata’s attention. I do feel kinda bad for Take but hey, Karma and all.
Kagari 2.0, it still baffles me why they compared her to that supermodel. Other than that, her reformation was most impressive…but the low blow that made Yomi finally snap was…DANG! Talk about a major downer. However, the being I felt the most sorry for was Yomi’s cell phone. Poor phone. It got a pillow trashing it’ll never forget.
Sir Steven Regal (Stevie Nix) paired Mato with Kagari in his mind based on a picture…heh, why not? It would be an interesting in an alternate universe.
To conclude my comments, please no Highlander for DM. It would break my poor heart. Hopefully since 3 and 4 have been a retelling of the OVA’s events, a hug from BRS awaits DM. Then Strength will avenge Arata’s psyche being highlandered by BRS in episode 3. That’s what I predict.

Sorry >.< but I don't know of war-hammer so I don't get the reference but anything on Dead Master, I will go with
Rinne's drama was short lived and hopefully done with, thank God! But I actually watch anime too just so I can see emotions displayed clearly. The stronger the better and Yomi went full on this episode!
Actually, I started raeging when the episode began but by the end, I was licking my lips in excitement, figuratively speaking of course.
And indeed let's hope that Yuu does have a thing for the Captain. This would lead to her hating on Mato for taking all Arata's affections.
Wait…I think I missed something here? what model? More information please…
I have also read of many who are having delusions about Mato/Kagari but for the life of me, I don’t remember seeing any! Okay, granted the scene of her giving Mato a towel was kinda but if there is one thing I don’t doubt (Okay I am starting to as of late) is that Yomi is the only one on Mato’s ‘to do’ list, if you know what I mean!
As for Dead Master, with how fragile and broken Yomi has to be like now in the real world, if Dead Master gets beheaded, things are not gonna be pleasant.
Not that I am worried for Dead Master or anything. You can’t beat Dead Master with force but rather, with feelings so unless BRS grows some or she’s gonna be so screwed she will think Chariot’s punishment foreplay!

It is WH 40k. And I really like this episode. Love the “psycho-madness” they´re showing. ^^
February 26, 2012 at 04:49
Epic episode. The whole “reborn” sequence of DM was fantastic. And you’re not the only that wished for the OVA version of DM emerging from the cocoon.
This version is ok, but is lacking the awesomeness and bitchness of the OVA version. Those psychotic smirks… I love the OVA version of Deadmaster!!
But, well, we cant have everything. Cant wait for the next episode, Black vs DM. Yeah!!! (And, Black, stop beheading people, for Madoka sake! That cant be good!!).
PD: Last episode, is revealed that Saya is just another unwilling pawn used by the true chessmaster and mastermind behind all… Yuu! Its all an elaborate plan to get all the girls for herself and fullfil her dream of her own yuri harem!! 😛
February 26, 2012 at 05:10
LOL
Well Yuu seems to like everyone so you might be right there ^^
As for Dead Master, we haven’t had a chance to fully enjoy her newly awakened version so maybe she will also be 9000x more btchy than the OVA. If Yomi got that much of an upgrade, Dead Master is gonna be…
*shudders*

I always have a canned comment regarding Miyuki Sawashiro’s roles getting crazier than ever: SAWASHED. Was surprised with the meme-like faces. Me gusta.

This is the longest post I have ever read about Black Rock Shooter. Ever.
Just wanna add that I was actually feeling rather sad for the guy getting rejected, seeing as it came out of nowhere, and I thought the guy was the one who confessed to her. Whoops, I guess episode 3 did matter, and skipping it wasn’t such a good idea anymore…
P.S. “This is anime FCOL! Since when do we w3atch anime for realism?” yeahaaa-
February 28, 2012 at 00:08
Longest? I guess this means you haven’t yet read my post on the OVA then ^^
Me no feel for the guy that much. He should have grown a back bone and defended Kohata’s letter from his friends/not so friends any-more. hmph
That will make him reflect on his life!
February 29, 2012 at 12:35
The guy received what he deserved.
…
Spineless and worthless pile of not yuri!!! *shake fist*
February 29, 2012 at 16:30
LOL
Well said, we don’t want spineless guys in our yuri anime!
