And here be first of the two moe shows I will be following this season. Kill Me Baby brings back the good old memories of the likes of Lucky Star and Pani Poni and because of that, I just couldn’t help wondering how it would have turned out had it been handled by either KyoAni or SHAFT. Don’t mean no disrespect to JCStaff and it’s not like they did a crappy job, far from it, but you know…One can’t help but wonder.

 
 
 

 
 
 
 
  
 
 
 

Episode 1 introduces us to the three main girls and seems to lay the ground work for the upcoming episodes.

We meet friends Oribe Yasuna (who is a high school girl…probably) and Sonya (a trained assassin). From the first episode we already know how these two are going to be interacting thought the series. The third girl is Koshiki Agiri, the ninja. I love her characteristics, especially the lazy/sleepy eyes and cool attitude. And unlike other ninja’ wannabes I won’t mention, she is actually a legit ninja, even though she knows not how to pass on her skills to Yasuna who wants to learn them in order to protect herself (probably from Sonya’s reactions to touch). I wonder if she’s just playing possum in that she wants to keep her practices a secret! Sonya seems to be acquaintances with her.

Since this is based off a koma manga, the episode is in segments but even with this case, there is a flow between them. As a koma, the comedy is none stop and I totally dig the VA choices. Never was one for third wheelers but I kind of like Agiri-chan so she is very welcome. Also she’s not going to be a leech so Sonya and Yasuna will still have their alone moments like when they watched the cherry blossoms together or when Yasuna comforted Sonya that one time on their way home. Too bad all moments ended in Yasuna touching Sonya and whenever she’s touched, her assassin instincts kick in which results in Yasuna’s broken wrist or worse. Well, with Yasuna’s instant regeneration abilities, I guess there is no better companion to Sonya.

This promises to be one of those ‘friendship’ type of shows, not that it makes any difference to me. I am already shipping Sonya x Yasuna.

I will be looking forward to more laughs from Kill Me Baby in the coming episodes.
